    Automatic gearbox

I bought my Golf Mk3 VR6 with an automatic gearbox fault (unknown at the time). It would run perfectly for up to 14 miles and then shift randomly between 3rd and 4th. So I spent quite a lot of time finding out how it worked, testing it and finally diagnosing the problems. I think the later 01M unit in the OBD2 cars seems to superior to the 096 in the ealier cars. Both are only 4 speeds, so not very efficient by modern standards. It needs an oil and filter change every 80k miles or so. Only use genuine VAG fluid which is quite expensive @ 50 ish. The gea

  3. Was watching an old episode of wheeler dealer tonight with the Corrado VR6. It had an ABS pump fault which Mike Brewer took to BBA Reman to repair. At the time of filming, the inspection fee was around £35 to identify faults and repaired for around £159. Thought this would be useful for some people should they have issues and require a repair. 4. Hi Mate, With body work it's a case of you pay for what you get. I'd say £300 per side is a good price if they do a good job. Genuine wings are obsolete now but oem and more are probably your best bet for copy wings. Many on here have use them and they seem to fit well with a little fettling. [emoji106]

Discs and pads front Discs and pads rear Oil and filter Pair of wings. Gonna make a start and do the clutch first. At least then I can manage to move the car around easily. Rear bumper will be coming off and more prodding around to inspect for rust. Underseal is waiting after the welding is done, if I'm investing in this one, I want to make it last!! Anti roll bars to be removed and painted orange. Have a pair of new rear ca

  6. Was a bit of a downer at the time.... Initially thought about looking for another car and swap all the good bits over.... Then gave my head a shake. Two Golf's on the drive is too much, it's full enough at the moment. Plus I'm likely to find something in a similar condition unless I'm spending some decent money. Had a look on Euro car parts.... £250 for clutch, all brakes, pair of wings and oil filter. I can paint the wings myself before fitting to save a bit of faf and hopefully money when it comes to painting - at least they will be green and fully fitted before painted again with t
