[moved] Question on superchargers...
Macca replied to yeeha's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I was talking to Jules and Mina at the rr day, and they both seemed to be of the opinion that it wasnt quite as simple as pay 2K to slap on a supercharger and off you go. I remember Jules saying he blasted his way through several head gaskets before he found some suitable head bolts, for example. Other components will need uprating to cope with the extra power. The other issue is that of traction in a FWD with 250+ bhp. Ive heard mention of an LSD needed. Although i have heard the six speed box is an excellent upgrade for NA VRs, their benefit may be undone with forced induction due to the fac -
There was the set for sale on PVW classifieds. Ive got all the bits myself for the conversion now, just got to get it sprayed:)

Bugger me. T-cut is awesome. thought i may as well have a go with the stuff before calling anyone and its brought up two of the arches a treat! Its also made my botched paint attempt look respectable. Id heard lots of bad things about it but its almost completely got rid of the scratch marks. I used the metallic stuff btw. I accept no responsibility for anyone stripping holes in their paint with this stuff, it wont help if the scratch is deep, but i have been very impressed.

Dont really know a lot about JR, but i know u can buy cold air intakes separately. Halford do green cotton ones for a tenner.
-
thanks, ill give them a try tomorrow

Ive taken the plastic arches off and replaced the vr6 side strips with the CL ones, it all looks way better and smoother, but..... bloody arches have left a scratch behind. Someone suggested giving them a rub with 2000 grit, bad idea , and im not convinced T-cut will work either, so ive got a quote for respaying the 4 panels £280, to get rid of the lines. Am i mad?

Cant get links to work:( possibly cos its a site you have to log in to?

what kind of car kicks a VR6s' arse?
Macca replied to apd's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Ive had many a happy occcasion cruising away from beemer drivers who think they own the road, although i leave 330s and above alone Only time ive felt really pissed on was this weekend on the way to Burning Bournemouth (a bit Max Power, but a good laugh). Evos are quick, veeeeery quick. -
I'll admit it was money well spent mate! Pics on here dont do your motor justice, see it in the flesh and it sort of glows. Have you had to respray any sections of the car? Id like my bonnet doing and some dented panels, but am worried about them getting the shade of blue wrong.

I just bought the first one i saw, he took me for a spin and i didnt take much convincing after that. Only paid 2800. sure, its done over 100k, and paint work isnt mint, but i figured the engine will probably do 200k+ and if i really wanted i could get the whole thing resprayed twice with the money id saved. Id just have a look on www.autotrader.co.uk and buy private

Arch trim & sideskirt removal / refitting on Mk3
Macca replied to antera309's topic in Bodywork and Styling
No problem also, i found the best way to get the rivets off in the first place was to saw their heads off, then hammer out the pins using mallet + screwdriver -
Ok, i have a ram-air which is good, but it seems to have got much quieter since i fitted a cold air feed, has anyone else noticed this? I have a supersprint exhaust, which is excellent. I replaced both silencers from the cat back and it gives a really sporty tone. I had a Peco back box before which was a piece of shit and people laughed at me.

Arch trim & sideskirt removal / refitting on Mk3
Macca replied to antera309's topic in Bodywork and Styling
You'll need a rivet gun and rivets to get the arch back on, although i put mine back in with some screws and plastic bits from B&Q. The side skirts are held in place with philips screws on the underside, clip along the side of the car and have rivets again on the ends (where they face the wheel). the correct rivets are cheap from VW, and i guess you can get a rivet gun from somewhere like machine mart. -
There are companies that specialise in this sort of thing, try mj interiors or seats galore. sorry i dont have phone numbers, try a web search and u should find them and they will give a price.

Six appeals is very nice, but i think the black vento fronted one is going to take some beating. another candidate is the red US car, also with vento front end in PVW a few months back.

Im a bit bored and wondering how i should spend my money on my car. What do you think it takes to make a REALLY nice Mk3? Post some pics of the sweetest mk3s youve seen to give me inspiration

[moved] Clunking noise when i set off?
Macca replied to 1990's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
I had this when i first bought the car, noise came from front right of the car, where id imagine CV joints are. Mechanic couldnt find cause, but he said he went round tightening everything (sorry cant be more specific) and the clunking went. It came back again after i jacked the car up to paint the calipers, but after a few weeks the noise gradually disappeared. New wheels look nice btw ian -
Im not sure about the physics behind the theory, but my tyres are 215 and i 'only' got 187.7 bhp, corrected. Am i right in saying readings seemed to improve throughout the day?perhaps the longer you gave your car to cool down was an advantage, or maybe the rollers became looser and spun more easily throughout the day? (Ok this is clearly bullshit) But as you say binliner its not competitive: i was really pleased at my reading, and i guess there are hundreds of reasons why some cars run better than others: so long as theres nothing major wrong im perfectly happy...... ....but a 200bhp car would

Just bought a 5 door VR6..... £1000 to spend on mods
Macca replied to mcleeve's topic in General Chat
I use 5W 40 fully synthetic oil, Castrol i think. Not that i know what the best is. Good choice of car btw, how come you decided to get rid of the Pulsar? I ventured round the back of No-rice car park last month and there was some bloke thrashing round in one. Ok it wasnt the place to be driving like that but it was an awesome car. -
157 at the wheels, so a loss of 32 bhp through the transmission and tyres. I think this loss is quite low

Noob question time: Are these easy to fit myself? what colours do they come in, and has anyone got pics of an engine with them on?
-
Mine is 28-29 mpg at motorway cruising. My friend swore he got much better fuel economy with Optimax, but a tank of normal unleaded seems to go further by my reckoning.

Hey couzens, good to meet u guys. mods on mine are ram-air induction cone and cat back superprint exhaust. i'll be interested to see a list of everyones mods and their output: it didnt seem that modded engines were putting out much more than standard ones..... unless they were supercharged of course (v impressive mina!). The highlines didnt seem to have much advantage either, but i could be wrong.
