I need new sill covers for my VR, I'm being told they are dealer only?? Anyone know of an alternative? I would not give my local dealer the steam off my P**S

I got a lot of paperwork with mine. Receipt for fitting total closure VAG alarm at new sale, most MOT's, the advert from dealer website when I bought it. Loads of other stuff but not looked at the file for a while to remember exactly what is in there. I've kept every receipt I have ever had relating to the car and all MOT certificates. I'm the third owner after a doctor from Milton Keynes when new followed by parts manager from Spirit Banbury's wife then me. I've had it for nearly 9 years now and done maybe 30k miles in that time!!!

Do you get the wee metal pipes on the steering rack seperate? Local dealer seem very vague, reckon I will have to buy a complete rack but worth asking first. thanks

Another cooling system issue.
marco replied to TheMainManRob's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hold the exhaust gas analyser probe over the coolant bottle (cap off) it it registers a HC readng there is unburnt fuel in the cooling system - head gasket. -
Gents The small rubber cap that fits over the exhaust test port at the back of the catalytic convertor has gone from my car. I've had a look on VAGcat but it doesn't seem to be listed seperately. I've also called the local dealer and he says it comes with the CAT. Anyone used an alternative??

T Piece coolant pipe the answer (info only)

I'll post up once I've got it. I'm expecting good quality as I have bought a lot of stuff from these people for my racing car and others I maintain and have had no problems with anything. -

I've been looking for one of these!! I found this http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/welded-aluminium-tee-38mm---tee3815-1033-p.asp Might give it a try. -
The biggest cost for recovery operators is the public liability insurance!! Go to companies like Mondial etc and ask to join their local sub contract lists.

The VR is too good to go trashing it using it for competition! The Corrado handles better and is in a better class. The VR would be in with Evo's, Scooby's etc as it's 2000 - 3000cc. The 1.4 multiplier for the turbo engines brings them into the class. I do hillclimbs and sprints in Scotland. I have entered the championship this year but moving house so maybe not too many events. I'veposted a link to my flickr so you can see my cars. Come and say hello if you are at any events. http://www.flickr.com/photos/markf1973/

Daily driver is a 130bhp diesel auto Insignia - company smoker!! I've also got a 16v Corrado for hillclimbs and sprints.

85000 miles on an 11 year old car isn't bad I reckon but as you say it's worth nothing to anyone else bar me. I've booked valentines weekend in a hotel up near Fort William and the company car is staying home!!! That'll rekindle my affair with the VR no doubt.....

Really deep down don't want to do this but I've been wandering why I still have my Vr6!!!! I have a company car, my wife has a car and I have a Corrado that I use for competing so I hardly ever take the VR out of the garage!! I've had it 6 years and have done less than 30K in it. I'm currently working 120 miles away from home, can't sell the house due to the media's credit crunch and don't really have any time to use it. Once I've moved I will probably use it more but not sure when that'll be. I feel sad looking at it in my garage never being used. Don't think it's worth selling as it's probab

Hi Guys, Having an issue with my local dealer identifying a part I need. Does anyone here work at a dealer that can help? Will pay P&P if someone can identify part number. In the top hose of my W chassis AAA engine golf there is a join where there is a T peice where a small hose goes to the header tank. I need the T peice. Pictures below show the part I need. Regional After Sales Manager for a large vehicle manufacturer. Don't drive my VR as much as I would like due to driving company car too much.

Hi Derek, Spotted you last week between Newbridge roundabout and Ingliston I think. Tried to catch up with you but had to turn off for the airport. Driving a Chrysler Crossfire convertible at the moment !! 3.2 litre 2 seat sportscar - couldn't catch you !! Must have been all the 1.2 Corsa's in the way!

Hi Andrew, Looking good - sorted your Scottish show schedule for this year ? Probably sort my car out over the next few weekends.

Trace the sensor wires back until you find the connector - there should be about 1000 ohms resistance through each sensor - I'd bet my house on one of them being faulty.

I might be up for this - I've been planning / thinking about the ferry to Santander in Northern Spain and a trip through Pyrenees - Monaco - Alps - Wolfsburg - Nurburg - Amsterdam and the ferry home from Rotterdam. Might take in a few other places but that's the bones of it for now.

Hi Pete, I'd love to help out but I'm of limited skill with the PC.

[moved] Possible headgasket failure???
marco replied to amit's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
this might sound weird but - is the pink liquid coolant ?? I got caught out in a similar siuation and the pink fluid was air con oil. Easy way to check if head gasket is OK - ask your local gagrage to hold their exhaust gas analyser over the coolant resevoir with the cap off - if there are Hydrocarbons present you have exhaust gas in your coolant - blown head gasket. -
I thought the R32 was pretty good when I drove one - I'd have one ! Only thing was I thought my old VR had more soul. Bizzare statement I know but it just has - you know what i mean. Wouldn't buy Japanese - they are cheaper for a reason - just project that a couple of years further on - R32 or S3 I reckon.

I went down to my local VW dealer - I know this is controversial but they are pretty helpful and gave discount !! So I just used the VAG stuff.
