  1. is that your water temp or oil temp? my water temp says bang in the middle of the gauge and never moves but my oil temp is like yours Binliner, yeap thats the oil temp that's up and down like a whore's drawers the water is as you say stuck in the middle when warm.
  2. It's deffo the top one, the grill looks trick too, I looked the other day for about 10mins all confused as i only saw one, I've checked today to see the 2nd piccy DOH...... :@
  3. I'd worry if it's steaming but mine can vary between 92 around town to 110 in the fast lane!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Went to local VAG dealer and bought the sill covers, the guy informed me that it is a regular problem. The new ones were £25 each including the VAT and I've put them on which is a easy (they just pushed on, after cleaning the fitting bracket on the sill). Just thought I would let you all know as i am sure i am not the only one with this prob which can be easily sorted..
  5. I went on the internet www.confused.com they shopped around and i am with www.belldirect.co.uk they were cheap. Happy shopping.
  6. Have spoken to VW mate re this debate, I am taking the Vr into the garage when he will :- 1) Clean the throttle body 2) Place the VAG COM on it and check for faults 3) He has told me that there is a computer or thingy me bob that when placed on the COM plug in points can reset the ECU to factory settings. When i told him about the disconnection of the battery he informed me this sets the ECU to emergency settings and this was best avoided!!!!!! 4) Full service including fuel filter etc I'll see if this ugly flat spot rears back up after the visit to the garage. Hope not.
  7. Leeds West Yorks, and no i'm not a football fan.
  8. TAKE OUT THE BULB.......................sorry Pete no idea LOL.
  9. Check out the thread Flat Spot, its sounds like we have the same prob, although mine dose'nt do it all the time.
  10. I've not had the fault memory checked but can do, will it tell me if there is a prob with the cam position sensor.
  11. The problem has been on and off for around 6/9 months. I haven't had the head off and taking a guess on the previous owners i would say that it has never been off, or had any major work done. I can try the cleaning of the throttle body and resetting trick. The chain does'nt sound noisy but the Vr has 80K on the clock, having said that, it's had all the services at the right time etc. I take it your not thinking it could be an electrical fault?
  12. Now then folks, advice needed. On my 96 Vr I have had an intermitant flat spot for about 6 months. The fault rears its ugly head about once every 2 weeks. It occurs between 500 and 1500 RPM but usually at 1000 RPM. The motor seems to be short on fuel and when i put my foot down it takes a second and picks up, this happens most at junctions and rolling starts. Had recent leads and plugs and I have been advised that its probably the coil packs and there is 2 of these. Does this sound about right as a solution to my prob or am i way off the mark. PS can someone confirm is there 2 coil packs and
  13. Right then, i will go to the local VW garage and buy a pair, when i get them i'll give it a go. Stand by for next thread on the forum. HELP, car's fallen in 2 bits while replacing sill covers. Ha Ha.
  14. Cheers for the advice, a mate of mine is in the body work business and I'll get him to investigate if is as cheap as 20 notes for a new one.
  15. On my 96 Vr I have noticed that under the black plastic sill and coverings on the skirt, the metal underneath is starting to rott and due to this the covers are begining to come away from the car. I had a 92 Vr Vento that did the same thing. Is this a common fault and is the solution to take them off and paint the bare sills or replace them with an aftermarket alternative. Any ideas would be welcome.
  16. Just a quick note to anyone who's insurance is due soon. Mine is due and i've done the usual ringing round and it did'nt help with me bumping it earlier in the year. But I've just got a corking quote from.........belldirect.co.uk Good look, hope someone save some dosh.
  17. Can say that you would be disapointed with a GTI 16V, if you then drove a VR. I bought a '96 GTI 16V when in a rush for a car in 2001. I did'nt think much to it and when I had the chance to drive a VR I sold the GTI straight away. I've owned my VR 18 months and many happy miles later I still smile behind the wheel. Happy shopping. See ya.
