  1. ah, i sink ze gestapo general will be very happy wiz ze new motorcade, apart from zee green and blue wagens! vee vill paint zem white and use zem as abulances!
  2. andrew- it all depends what you're trying to achieve and the sort of effect you want to create as to what subs you need in the car! one persons " cup of tea" is not going to be the next persons etc etc. the bass is only overwhelming if you want it to be, unless you're a max muppet with a "market special bass cannon", anyone with decent components/hu, can shift the balance of sound to where they need it to be for different occasions, ie driving and show use!
  3. i painted my front rieger splitter myself and its stayed pretty much blemish/stone chip free and its been on the car since before international this year! preparation and proper priming are the key!
  4. that would be my guess, running the cables down behind the console and up the middle of the car should be the route for rca cables, no need to be going behind the passenger airbag really as that will lead to interference from the electriacal system behind there, the main loom for the car runs down that side and to the rear! i always find that a bent open coat hanger is an ideal tool for guiging wires to and from the head unit to behind and under the dash, much easier than trying to poke them through on their own!
  5. i paid £105 for my magnecors 2 years ago from demon tweaks and have been splendid so far, match my blue samco's now too!

    HELP!

andrew, make sure that the main loom connector to the engine is fully twisted on, its the one right next to the aux water pump behind the coil pack! i had some work done to mine and the car suddenly cut out on the way home for no reason. would continue to fire(like out of juice) but not start! wasn't until i had a look under the bonnet, and noticed the aux pump not running at all despite ignition on, that i turned the connector, and hey presto, the car started!
  7. nothing wrong with a 5 door clive, i know the 3 doors look sportier, but there really is not much difference between them. and for the opportunity of a good example in 5 door guise, it would be silly to miss out and hang on for months looking for the car that fits your(if a little fussy/not wanting a lot!) kinda way for the money you have to spend. you could still always buy mine for 4.5k without stereo or wheels, lol!
  8. drove my dads xjs 5.3 v12 with an auto box against a 4x4 cossie when i was 20 and had such a huge grin on my face when i totally whipped its arse as the power delivery/kickdown was awesome. but then you'd expect that from such a refined engine. i have to say, on the auto side of things, they are usually confined to old men in slippers with pipes, although i have been in a few more modern cars with not to shabby performance from an auto box! never beat manual for pure driving feel though, EVER!
  9. yes come on y'all, we need the full sp on this conversion to perfect our late(make that very late!) braking techniques in order to get the jump on some of the less-power-but-quicker-accelerating so called hot hatches out there! any advantage in slowing the car quicker is a better move than going quicker in my book! part no's and new prices would be handy too! and also the extra bits to go from 280mm not just 288mm.
  10. many thanks to claire and ian for the organising/bbq duties yet again! a top weekend and probably the best all rounder show for hardcore watercooled vee-dubbers this year! love the laid back atmosphere, nice to see some new faces, and a very nice setting for the show. roll on next year!
  11. just bought a brand new aux pump from my local uro dealer for £59+vat. a bosch one at that, good price, will be fitting it 2moro before the trek to e38!
  12. i'm using an alpine swr-1041d dual voice coil 10" 300wrms in the same enclosure as justin, along with a v12 mrv1000 alpine amp running a 2ohm load! amp is rated at 500wrms. you need to be sure to match the sub to the enclosure size as it needs to be able to work effectively in a o.65 cuft space, and some subs(regardless of what so called "experts" say) will be unsuitable in such a small enclosure!
  13. excellent workmanship matey, had an 8v head ported/flowed a couple years back now by them and got a 18bhp/15lbs/ft increase alone with the head/manifold porting job! very profesional outfit tbh!
  14. i think its the lights and grill that make it look odd olly! saw a white vr with this kit on at malvern indoor show, and it looked sweet with just debadged grill and mk.4 style lights in clear! plus, he'd moved the number plate down to the meshed area! looked phat!
  15. i dont think its the width sometimes, as much as the diameter that makes the wheel look fat when a tyre is stretched!
  16. at the best stage, mine was running 276bhp and 256lbs/ft of torque, ran a 13.99 fully stripped at santa pod, and then dropped a valve shortly before xmas 2003! faulty work or components is now the wrangle i have with builder/supplier of components, frustrating to say the least!
  17. it will almost certainly increase the volume in exhaust noise, but to what degree is hard to say, and it will loosen up a couple of bhp but will also seem quicker by the tone of the new exhaust! make sure you get it fitted professionally, as a bodge/cheapo job will leave you disappointed and wont do the car many favours either!
  18. depends where you get it done. any good bodyshop will colour match it to you existing panels and a darker colour hides its age better than a lighter one! the grill you could do yourself, but unless well practised with spray cans, i would leave the bonnet well alone!
  19. je pistons are the best to use really mark, eip ones are better for high boosted forced induction motor due to their higher heat tolerances! £2500 for a 3.0 rebuild is good, mine cost over £4500 with all the goodies on board, head, cams,tb,map, manifold, injectors etc. tuning the vr for big power is not cheap, but looking at it again i would have spent the money on a charger at the very least or a little more and turbo'd it, given the power hikes available compared to capacity increases! i was going for reliability, and what happened to that plan? most of you know!
  20. 2.9 is different bore also! have to be carefull when overboring as the wall thickness can lead to unreliability and destruction if not machined professionally
  21. you can overbore the 2.9 and the 2.8 engines, but can only take the 2.8 to 3.0, the 2.9 can be taken to 3.1 as this was what i had done to the engine i used to have in mine! this is what i am led to believe anyway, somebody else will no doubt have a contradictory answer as i only post what i am informed on by other "reputable" companies
  22. i know that awesome gti do the neuspeed thermostats for the vr lump that open earlir to allow better cooling, but not sure if they do the fan thermoswitch to match. they do for the gti but no mention of the vr6! website undergoing updates to so may be best to ring, let us know how you get on!
  23. i will text you to let you know wether i'll be going friday or not claire!
  24. i may be going up o the friday yet claire, but not sure yet, depends on my bro as he cant go till he finishes work at six!
  25. got a web address for those guys anyone? is that p&p for any distance posted, or more for further away?
