  1. not always mate they are pressure related so if pressure builds they release water before blowing anything else in theory allthough that doesnt always work but sometimes they fail and cant hold the pressure they are meant to.
  2. you can get adapters to fit them mate i dont know if he still has them but there is a bloke on vag-h20 who has a set http://fightdub.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2425&mforum=fightdub
  3. yes mate they are well known for failing i often get asked for them in fact ive got about 15 bottles in yard and no caps lol.
  4. lol kevs been on here long eneough for us to know he knows what hes talking about and chargecoolers are defo better than standard coolers anybody who knows anything about turbos or superchargers will tell you that .
  5. well said dmark i also have done enough conversions to know what im talking about so what is it then if we are wrong.as it occured to you that perhaps vdubgirl just made a little mistake as she has wires everywhere and is not positive what they are for.i know for a fact that them wires go to the brakes whether it is abs sensors or pad warning lights but im 99% positive it is abs and im 150% positive she doesnt need them in the conversion she is doing.
  6. sorry only just noticed this thread and yes just to confirm what dmark said abs sensors mate.Carl
  7. well i have a bottom end that ran sweet but smoked so pretty sure it just needs some rings mate if its any good to you you can have for £50 its still complete engine at mo obd 1 dizzy type but there all interchangeable if you wanted complete engine to make good one out of 2 you could have for £80.Carl
  8. oh that what i thought mate so basically just half a rebuild that sounds a bit more realistic i was starting to think i was a bit pricey for a second lol i reckon i could have done a bit more for that price. did you have a new crank or just have the old one reground or was the crank ok and just have new shells.
  9. whats that for copper full rebuild with block being sorted with new piston rings big end little end bearings chains tensioners the works or what im curious as to what excactly you get for that sort of price because to fully rebuild a vr properly with everything that would be needed that sounds a bit cheap mate unless you are doing it yourself and thats just the price of the bits and the rehone of block if bores are ok .
  10. check its defo water and not power steering fluid aslong as its water theres a good chance its the cap on water bottle mate.Carl
  11. could be either mate tbh coilpacks are common for going down if leads are getting a bit old they can break down aswell the leads are cheaper to replace but i reckon its prob the coilpack but until you replace 1 or the other you wont know for sure mate sorry my solution would be to just replace both then you know its sorted.Carl.
  12. The ecu is in the bulkhead mate with wiper motor which im sure you are aware of you will see there is a thin hose that comes off of it take it off from there trace it back to inlet i prefer to totally replace it but worse ways get an airline and blow it right out but make sure its completely removed from vehicle b4 you do blow out though cos if its still connected to ecu it may knacker something.Carl.soz but was a while ago when i last messed with 1 and i cant remember what colour it was but only 1 goes to ecu.
  13. Oh yes forgot to mention that aswell lol as a rule if its got brown in the wire or is brown its an earth.
  14. well as far as im aware the fuel pump relay is in the bottom right hand corner of fuse box and should have either the number 67 0r 167 written on it in big white letters these are the most common relays for messing around on mk3 golfs i have had them go down on everything from 1.4 to vr6 so when you say#12 and #19 what do you mean is that the socket it goes in in fusebox or is that the number on the relay and have you tried taking the bottom right relay out of your vr and putting it in your 16v mate ive also had wierd running issues with the 16v mk3s with the little air pipe that goes from in
  15. 17s do affect acceleration a fair bit imo if you are going from 15s i prefer 16s aswell they give a nicer ride than 17s but again thats my opinion.Carl
  16. lol you could always remove the servo air pipe you wont get hardly any travel then ,your brakes would be well crap but no travel sorry im not helping much the passats i have had have had the same sort of travel as the golfs but i have come across both with lots of travel generally down to needing a goosd fluid change or a bit of air in system try giving the system a bleed and see what improvements they make also when you are bleeding them see if you can get some racing blue brake fluid cos this seems to work really well.Carl.
  17. if you are putting uprated speakers in you will get a better sound by running new uprated wires from the head unit to speakers mate the better the quality of the speaker wire the better sound you get and are you trying to run all 4 uprated components off of head unit or have you got an amp cos it could just be that your headunit hasnt got the guts to give you the sound your after.i always amp my components and get a wicked sound.
  18. perhaps its just a relay for retards mate he he he just kidding thats a new 1 on me aswell mate what excactly is your valver doing anyway ive had a few and worked on quite a few more now.
  19. ouch glad to hear your both ok it just shows how strong vws are i witnessed someone go sideways in a mk2 hit bmw flip the car 15-20ft in air whilst spinning over and over land on roof in ditch and the only person who suffered injuries was driver who got thrown out of car cos not wearing belt the passenger and 2 babies come out of it with minor scratches most cars just wouldnt servive these inciidents the way vws do.
  20. all vr6 the 2.0 16v and some tdis all corrados and passats have the cable change mate the other golfs have rods.
  21. yep the alloy rod on back of keylock as i said mate.
  22. I would also check the ignition module on theback of the ignition lock as this can cause the problem you are suffering with.Carl
  23. resize with photoshop or similar program then repost the picture.
  24. Lol its the same with everything mate with so many members you are always gonna get somebody with a different opinion to what some1 else is saying its sods law .
  25. After fitting a set of Koni coilovers to vr6 petes old nurbuggered mk3 and seeing how many sets of fks deteriorate i would only reccomend the koni kit the quality of them is unreal i know they cost a bit more but personally if i wanted coilovers id wait a bit save a bit more and get the konis you wont regret it in the long run thats my opinion.
