  1. Hi folks Writing from NZ...I managed to buy a replacement ECU out of the UK for my 1997 Golf VR6 (just in case mine goes - they are cheaper in UK than NZ). Fitted it OK....and tested, but found it has the security function (when we start the car it runs for a second then cuts out). Anyone know how to reset the ECU so it knows it is in the right car and allows it to start? FYI - all part numbers are same, just a newer ECU version that has the function fitted. Thanks for any help ...
  2. My ABS light came on every now and then. Checked the cap on the brake fluid reservoir and it was a little loose. Tightened it and problem went away. Do not know how or why, just did and not returned. May help you>>??
  3. Hi fellow Brits.... Having had one ECU stuffed up by a poor solder job here in NZ I am looking for someone in UK to GUARANTEE the correct soldering of a chip holder to an ECU (021906256). Need original chip de-soldering off, then a holder soldering on, then the original chip refitting (just bend legs to make it fit), then the ECU testing to see it works OK. Before sending back to NZ. I have an ECU lined up in UK, just need an address to send it to for solder and test work. Who can you recommend? Many thanks... By the way the stuffed up NZ solder job cost me 400 quid NZ equivalent to put right,
  4. Wondered if someone might know why my VR6 will not start with new GIAC (GARRET) chip in it. Right code sent, right installation, battery negative removed at all times till fire up. Worked off rubber mats to avoid static. Left ignition on (no start) for ages prior to start up. Had professional solder in the chip holder (99% sure he did it right). Heard little whirring noises coming from engine, seemed to be communicating. Ignition light comes on. But engine will not fire. Have checked fuses and all OK. Have checked alarm and spark/fuel pump not immobilised. Put old chip back in and still did no
  5. Just had mongoose alarm fitted to my 1997 auto VR6. Central locking works OK, but we cannot get it to work remotely off the alarm key pad. Anyone fitted one before and knows best place to wire the trigger to get the doors to all lock? Note that the turn the entry key to the left and hold does not send any open windows back to up position, which I believe should happen. Cheers from New Zealand member..
