Think yourselves lucky. My VR6 auto was an absolute pig in the wet. If you booted it the torque steer after gear changes sent it halfway across the other side of the road.

This is an inspection plate that covers the bottom half of the bellhousing. It helps to keep the muck out of the clutch and flywheel. Not very serious if it is missing. I suspect when the gearbox was removed at some point it was forgotton about when it was put back together. Should be fairly cheap from VAG

Well, it's finally gone. As much as it hurt I let it go for £2700. I think the lesson I learnt was don't buy a car like this with an auto box because nobody wants them. It was a great car and I had a bit of fun with it. I may get another one at some point but right now a modded MK1 looks appealing. After going to the Campaign Register 21st birthday do and seeing 147 MK1 GTi's all in one place, I want one. Does anybody know if a VR6 lump has been fitted in a MK1 ?
-
How about an automatic VR6, seems like this will be the only way I can get rid of it !!!!!
-
I know this may not be of interest to a lot of you, but I guess some of you are GTi freaks as well as loving the VR. Just wondered if anyone is attending the anniversary do in Warwickshire on the 26th september. My GF has an 83 MK1 which we will be showing, so I may see a few of you there.

If a helicoil is fitted correctly there is absolutely no reason it should cause any problem. Also it would be virtually impossible for anyone to notice it during an inspection or when changing the plugs.
-
Check out the new one in the classified section. Sounds like a bargain at 6.5k !!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so it would not have been my first choice but it seemed like a bit of fun. Looking at prices for manual VR's I cant believe that nobody wants a to give me 3K for a 96 Highline. I cannot describe the grin factor when you kick it down in sports mode and it goes through the box bouncing off the rev counter at 6500 rpm. And it still gives 30 to the gallon on a run.

I have one for sale. It is everything you want except it has one of those interesting auto boxes. It has 3 doors, aircon and it's a highline.

I have mine insured by a specialist company called Roadsure who normally deal with Kitcars and modifieds. I pay £307 fully comp (but I am an old git at 31)

Tandino, I will e-mail the photo's tomorrow. As well as the fresh MOT it also had service and 6 months tax.
-
Mine also went straight through the MOT today. Please somebody buy it now !!

Here's the score, Had my VR6 for nearly a month now. Bought it for less than peanuts as the box was dead. It is now back on the road and I love it. Grin factor is huge. It needs a few bits and pieces doing on it but it is basically very good. The problem is I bought it from my other half's ex and to say she is not happy about it is an understatement. The original plan was to buy it, get it back on the road and sell it. Problem is I dont know if I can part with it now. Do I keep the VR or not ?

I agree that all cars need money at some stage, it is just unlucky that some need more than others. The week after I bought my VR I spent £940 having the box rebuilt, which I was expecting. I am sure it will need more money chucking at it soon. It is just the nature of the game. A friend of mine once said to me 'Speed costs money, it just depends how fast you want to go'. How very very true.
