  1. You'll need to know your MOT inspector or you'll be swapping the cat back on every MOT. Other than that, not much! 5hp maybe 10hp if your lucky, thats with the mods you have as well. (10's probably a little optomistic!)
  2. Ummmm why would you buy a new engine when just the head gasket needs replacing??!! £600 head gasket or over a grand for a new engine plus fitting? Not much of a decision really!
  3. £400 for a Charger map mate, plus extra to put the injectors in. Do the injectors yourself if you're competent, you'll save yourself an hours labour and yes you can run the car with the new injectors in, just drive it under 3k
  4. I've got a colour coded wiring loom!
  5. It's because tuning technology has moved on and generic chips are mapped for the characteristics of one car. Any man who opts for a generic chip over a custom rolling road map, specially tailored for their car, is clearly waisting their money imo.
  6. You planning on revving your VR to 8k and over then?!!! lol TBH I don't reckon it's worth looking at on an engine that only revs to 6.5 rpm.
  7. You need to take it off buddy - 20 min job and doesn't get ally dust all over your engine bay!! It'll be worth it in the end
  8. Does no one remember Awesome's pink abomination? And that was a right hand drive one. Apparently handled like a bag of shite due to the weight of the engine giving it MASSIVE amounts of lift off oversteer and it's inability to go around corners at speed! http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/gallery/mk1vr6gallery.html Oh and if you think that may be fast click the links below for the ultimate in craziness: http://www.materialmord.de/golf_1_vr6_turbo_by_terror_schna.htm Video of a Polo VR6 running the quarter: http://videos.streetfire.net/search/VR6+turbo/0/e4cf7bb0-c401-4d82-ab11-98b0005cafa6.htm
  9. This isn't even a European designed car, it was evolved by the Californian design centre of VW and there are no plans for it in europe. But there are whispers of some of the tuning filtering over here-maybe.
  10. Gutted for you fella. I hate that road, easy to under estimate your speed on those dark bends. I may know someone with a load of spares in Saltash if you get stuck.
  11. I'll take you for a spin buddy no probs. Maybe upgrading to a Vortech V9 fairly soon so the Z maybe on offer if you fancy it

  13. Hummm, I could be up for a trip down the ring road. Haven't see you for a while Sanky.
  14. From a friend who works in a fabricators fella.
  15. Long way to go yet buddy. But you're doing all the right things by the look of it. Have you invested in a set of 'Frost' polishing mops for the end result? Once done it should look something like this:
  16. You'll pick up a dog of an Escort Cossi for that money. They are a legend of a car but unfortunately carry the worst image imaginable. Every time I mention Escort Cosworth to anyone I just get laughed at. There is a garage on my industrial estate (present thread owner excused) and all I get every day is dickheads turning up in doggy Saphie's with cozzi kits and Essex lumps in reving the shit out of them. A couple of them are the real deal but they look like they've done more donuts in carparks than I've had hot dinners!! Any cossi friends of mine have owned with decent power have spent every o
  17. Your car will run fine with low comp pistons in it. It'll just be slightly down on power.
  18. How did the MAP go mate? I'm interested...
  19. If you warn Vince that you suspect the cam timing is out then its not a difficult job for him to rectify. Quite how your mechanic would manage to get that wrong is beyond me as he should have used a key to lock them in place. There is also no way the car will just cut out and not run correctly after having the head rebuilt, even if you've had the s**t flowed out of it. I would suggest you have a blockage somewhere. Be prepaired for Vince to want to keep the car for a day or so if you haven't prepaired him. One tip may be that if your planning on any further mods, i.e exhaust or filter or any o
  20. You wont notice any difference tbh and if your engine is running fine, your waisting your money. The only reason I had mine bored out to 2.9 was because I had nasty bore ware. However, if you're going to do it yourself, then I suppose it'll be an interesting project for you but if your paying someone to do it and have to buy a good 2.9 motor, your far better off buying a supercharger to see proper power. Why bother with all that hasstle for all of 10bhp? Plus all the worry if you've bought a good 2.9 engine?
  21. Try this out: Before you put your car away for the season give it a good wash and wax job. It is VERY IMPORTANT to always store your car clean. Don't forget to wash off the underneith. After all, that's were most of the rust starts. A good coat of wax on the car will protect the finish against stains if something happens to get on it during the time it is being stored. If you use a car cover, put it on while the car is clean and dry to protect against dirt, dust and possible scratches. DO NOT cover your car with plastic or one of those blue tarps that you can get at the hardware store. It on
