  1. I thought Mobil 1 was too thin, I use gear oil. The previous owner had Mobil 1 in it and it leaked like a git. If yours is ok then I suppose it's fine.
  2. Ah man, I wouldn't even attempt looking at a VR engine on my own without serious equipment and a HUGE garage to do it in, with all the gear. Even the guys that rebuilt my engine managed to snap a piston ring in the process. SLUT of a job! Good luck fella.
  3. Every 6,000 miles mate, and even then, I'd probably only do an oil change, look for twice the mileage to change the belt, just to be on the safe side. Bullet proof (I hope!!!)
  4. single box system (and a bit forced )
  5. Ah Claire, how long before it gets some phat R32 Konigs in it then?!!!
  6. Any bigget than 2.5 inch on a VR and you will start to loose torque. Don't go any bigger.
  7. Mate, your car is hardly modified! Unless the car is HIGHLY modified ie: charger, loads of engine work, expensive rims and a costly leather re-trim (even this you wont make anything like what you may have spent on it - it may if your lucky make it slightly more sellable) you will loose money on it end of story. If your desperate to sell it mate, I would recommend spending some money on it cosmetically, it doesn't look the most tidy example and a good weekend polishing and cleaning will add value and make it more desirable. In that condition and that price, I would keep looking. Just some frien
  8. The top plates? Thats a polished rocker cover and inlet manifold.
  9. I'd say it probably has something to do with the fact that they cost a fortune and you will probably see around 15 miles to the gallon! You need to do alot of work to the engine for the throttle bodies to be a real benefit. Cams, head work etc. to see power that is even anything like comparible to a turbo charger.
  10. It's beyond me how the hell a Seat technician could even dream that up! I would recommend you get an independant engineers report just to harden your case and present it to them. Tell them that they must repair the problem and any damage to your new engine their stupidity has caused is also their responsibility. Arseholes!
  11. If you don't fancy spending a fortune on it mate. From experience I would recommend buying a second hand engine or just keep any eye out for a short block. Not a nice feeling mate, hope you get it sorted soon. If you need a hand with anything give me a shout.
  12. Not good fella. I'd be surprised if your bottom end is ok after that kind of destruction! Is there much scoring to the bore at all? A funny low mileage problem like I had mate. Every blown up VR6 engine i've heard of (and it hasn't been many!) have been low mileage ones. Mine shat its pants, not to the extent of yours mind, and it had only covered 60k!! Big engines + town driving + short journeys = Short life, when guys like us get our hands on them. We get hold of them and put more stress on them than they've ever been subjected to and they go pop. Mind you, if you sit there revving it all da
  13. Would you not ask how much the bill may come to before they carry out work in any event? It's called a quote! I very rarely call Ferrari ask them to deliver an Enzo and not ask how much it may be first!!!
  14. I doubt it would be timing chains on a spanking new engine (unless they didn't replace them). Timing chains are also on the right hand side as you look at the engine (passenger side). The only thing on the top end that side are your tappets. I'm not sure how much 140 degrees would effect our engines. All I can say is I bet it got pretty thin! I reckon its followers. You could have starved a couple of oil at that temperature. Just a thought.
  15. Eh? Not replace head bolts? I don't think there is an engine in the world using stretch bolts that you wouldn't replace them. Your head gasket is now fooked! Just make sure you don't over heat the old girl, as your new head will warp and also be fooked!
  16. Dunno whats going on here mate. I posted a reply up the other day saying it's my engagement party this weekend and the folks are up. I think they are leaving early on Sunday but usure as to what time. If I can make it I will deffo be there.
  17. Most of them are utter shite mate. They are just like the crappy aluminium ones some companies produce and all they do is cover your existing VR6 DOHC cover. I remember seeing a manky VR at Santa Pod last year, the engine bay was filthy and all he'd done was put these shiny covers all over the thing. Nasty!!
  18. Do a search as usual. How many times a month does this post appear?!!!
  19. Very nice mate. I wish I could trust my missis with a mint motor. You should see the state of her Alfa 147! I cry every day!
  20. Steve, just in case you didn't mention it. I think it DOES look crap!
  21. Shit mate, that is not good news! I hope you get it sorted soon mate.
  22. You can't change the pulley on a ZR2 (except for machining it down) and I've had mine boost tested at 6.5psi. There would be no point lowering the compression as the charger doesn't produce enough boost to do any damage. Lower the compression with 6 psi the car will produce less hp no? Simey, I don't see how that spec list you sent me would produce over 300bhp. And what did you mean by lowering compression to 2.8? Standard compression is ok for 12-13psi I believe (a standard Z only produces half that boost), any more and you will need a comp ratio of around 9.0:1 if I'm correct. Even 8:5:1 for
