  1. Ok mate care to enlighten me? You may do with a bottomless wallet but pound for pound against a Vortech I wouldn't try getting over 300bhp with my Z.
  2. You'll never get over 300bhp with a Z charger. My ZR 2 is running on a new 2.9 engine and I reckon it's no more than 270hp. I may get a little more with a decent exhaust and cams but nowhere near the kind of power available from a Vortech charger due to the available pulleys and the gearbox thats in a Vortech. Baring in mind a Vortech will cost you nearly twice as much to buy than a Z. Both as reliable as eachother.
  3. Forged pistons only cost me £100 more than standard ones fella. Lightened and balanced crank (knife edged maybe?) with rods will be a considerable amount more but you will be surprised how much little extra a 2.9 rebore with forged (or not) pistons will cost you.
  4. Can we see pictures of this beast please. Sounds like one of the fastest MK2's in the UK!!!! 550hp and on a standard gearbox? :S
  5. I'm sure somene on here has bought a Shimmel intake and is supercharged. Isn't it Kevhaywire?
  6. I'd deffo get the short intake Pete for when the charger goes on. You'll get good money for the Shrick which will cover the cost of the intake manifold. One thing you need to bare in mind is the throttle body mounting. I was looking at the issues with Jon (Millsy) the other day and apparentley the Schimmel ones only come with a near side (driver, left hand drive and all that) throttle body mounting. Firstly: the Shimmel ones go straight on but when you go to fit the throttle body it fouls by the fan housing and you need to do some mods. Secondly: Ideally you need the throttle body on the drive
  7. A 2.9 rebore will be the same as boring a 2.8 fella. The only extra cost will be the pistons. You could go forged (don't lower the compression unless you're gonna go megga boost) or get some 2.9 raddo pisons. But it looks as if you've bought rings already. There isn't much you can do to bottom end internals without spending i'm afraid. I went forged 2.9 and all new barings. As I said, only a couple hundred quid more because of the pistons.
  8. Sounds like head gasket fella. If water's getting on your spark plug, it will deffo be. It doesn't take much water for the old girl to poor out white smoke.
  9. Aluminium foil to cover electrical components???!!! I don't fookin think so!!!

    flowed head.

TSR are very expensive mate. Have a shop around For the price, i'd put it towards a charger and don't bother!
  11. You have to put the manifold on over the leads mate. Justin has done exactly that. Its a real slag to get to them. A few people in the states weld up the holes and get the inlet chromed. Alot of work!
  12. All recon mate, unless you go to the stealers!!
  13. Sounds like you may have dropped a valve. But this may not mean good news either as it could have smacked the top of a piston. Does the car tick over smoothly? If it does it wont be your bottom end as is sounds like the engine isn't breathing properly when needs to. You could of had something drop into a bore and impacted itself into a piston or if your REALLY unlucky, found it's way down the side of a piston and wrecked a bore, piston and rings (:s). I'm only giving some impartial advise mate, i'm no engineer but these sound like viable explinations.
  14. Oh shite mate... Not good news. Have you seen the lump that's missing from the plug, has he shown it to you? Is the missfire intermitent or constant? Is the car smoking like mad? Is it making a knocking noise? How can it drop a piston without throwing a rod through the block and making a real mess of your bottom end? It can drop a valve but not a piston! But even that's rare on a VR lump! I'd like to hear the symptoms of the engine and what noise it's making before I can comment really.
  15. Nice work mate. One question: What the hell is going on with the Blue Mk3 with all the boxes in the engine bay, some turbo arrangement maybe?
  16. What sort of supercharger do you have?
  17. I can't give you an exact cost mate. As I had two new bumpers, grill, both rear arches rolled and quarters painted, plus some other bits and bobs. Came to just over £250. Numbers at work, I'll get it to you on Monday.
  18. He's called Craig Renton (CR Accident repairs). I'll dig the number out and pm it to you. He's done some work on my car and rolled the arches - he doesn't just roll them though. Does the real deal, underseal, the works.
  19. Everyone looks a 'em fella. Nice work
  20. Much better than polished mate. Much less looking after. All you'll need to do is buff it off with a cloth. Don't know how much they usually cost to chrome, but I bet if you do a lot of the prep work b4 hand, it'll cost you a lot less.
  21. Where are you fella? I use a guy near Bradford who is the nuts. He's done many cover cars. He's a one man band and takes alot of pride in his work. Give me a shout if its any use to you.
  22. Nice one fella. I'll keep your number close to hand, you never know!! You're right about full throttle. No one expects to hear a Golf whistle like it does, as soon as a person in the know hears it and sees it's a VR6 they don't even bother. I used to get all the rice boys trying it on, but now all I get is a kind of embarrassed, red faced glance!!
