  1. Not a good idea to fit before the charger in my opinion as the ecu will be metering pre-charged air flow and once the compressed air meets the fueling the ecu wil go 'errrrrmm' and be all over the place. I've not met one person running pre MAF on a Z. Mines running after the charger and runs as smooth (if not smoother) than an NA VR.
  2. I don't think you do need to take it off tbh. I'm no mechanic but thats what I can remember form discussions I had with the garage when I had my capacity increased.
  3. Blow by mate. Rings sound as if they are fooked.I'd change them before they break up and score your bores badly. They can be changed by just dropping the sump off if you are really strapped for cash.
  4. I'm sure you'd know if you had belt slip. Sounds like a fueling issue to me. Have you got your maf plugged in?
  5. Sorry guys am I missing something here, can we not just reply to the original post? The question was: 'Whats the deal with the power to weight ratio on these cars then. Take a healthy OBD2 VR6 circa 185-190 bhp and 1155kg is it? compared to the new S3 circa 260 bhp and 1460kg. What would be the power to weight ratio of both?' If your talking about a stock Mk1 S3 yea fair enough a charged VR will do a stock S3. However the original post was about the new S3 which is up some 50hp on an old one vs a stock healthy VR, not charged, not mapped, not an exhaust or anything else. I can only assume the
  6. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this on buddy. I just can't see it.
  7. You can't compaire a NA VR6 against a new S3. It's has 265bhp with over 350nm of torque at 2,500 rpm and 0-62 in 5.7 seconds! It'll kill an even slightly modified VR all day long. Charged, well thats a different matter I raced one a while back on the ring road and managed to select 3rd instead of 5th whilst going past one (both balls out), not a nice feeling and looked a little bit of a cock! Quick car though and the driver was a little surprised!
  8. This thread's a bit quiet! Anyone going? Wont have my new coilovers on by then though
  9. For the price and the hassle of doing all that, you'd probanly save money if you Turbo'd it. It wont fit without more grief than it's worth.
  10. Nice VR but the side vent completely ruins it imo
  11. Loose the DUB badge fella. Halfords special Sorted the screaming out yet?
  12. I'd have a cardio resus pack by your side when they ring you back mate. They charge a bloody fortune.
  13. Ok, you need to figure out in your head if the car is making a knocking/banging noise. A distinctive knock will all most certainly mean a major failure. If the engine is running, it wont be chain related as the engine needs the head to work for the combustion process and without the chain, the engine wont run. You'd know if you had a thrown rod, the car would be bleeding all over the road! Will the car idle/tick over?
  14. Just take it off and have a look buddy. You can't go wrong IMO.
  15. Its that roof idea that does it for me. Awesome..
  16. Yep, all it is, is a big compressor wheel sat on a bearing, the bearings aren't cheap though, you'll be looking at about a £100 from what I can remember. I didn't rebuild mine, but have had plenty of advice from Millsy who did mine. Are you sure it is that though? Double check it when you take it off.
  17. They are still supported, it's now MC Racing and parts are still available. The only reason I have a high-ish torque figure is the fact that my car has been rebored to 2.9
  18. Bearings can be changed as mine was completley rebuilt before I bought it. Vist a good bearing shop and they will best advise. You may want to ask them about the viscosity of the oil the bearings use as I know Millsy had issues with using Mobil 1 and seals leaking. I've been using gear oil in it since I bought it and that was over 5k ago (sweet as a nut )
  19. Thats good power for a Z charger. Mines only running 270-ish with a forged 2.9 bottom end, ZR2 charger @ 6psi and full decat Milltek (guessing as it was RR'd @ 265bhp and 258 ftlbs of torque with the standard exhaust). Not many VR's running over 300hp with a Z charger, they just don't produce the boost 6-8psi is all they can manage, however it is a totally solid power as they don't suffer from belt slip at all. That is a lovely VR, totally surprised it hasn't sold. P.S The Z's only worth about £1500-1600.
