  1. A straight replacement from a breaker will be cheapest, around £300+fitting. Rebuilding is probably the best way to go but it's certainly not cheap. To do it properly, you'll be looking at 4 figures easily. Most people fit a lower final drive to make the car accelerate quicker (making it rev higher than normal), I don't think you'd find many people recommending you do the opposite. Your best bet would be to phone Stealth down south for a quote on a fancy gearbox.

    next car ?

I was actually thinking of selling mine a few months ago and was looking for new cars. I soon changed my mind when I couldn't actually find anything I wanted that I would like better. I considered an Audi S4 but the running costs are astronomical, and looked at Merc CLK coupe's but they all seem to be autos. Considered an Audi S3 but they're far too bland and boring. I quite fancy the look of the Mk5 Golf twin charger though, and I'm going to look into whether I can afford one when they are released. The New Scirocco looks tempting too, but I think that'll cost a bit too much.
  3. Over £400 is silly money to be paying to have a budget suspension set up. You might see it as a saving of £150, I see it as a waste of however much it costs. If you're spending money on suspension, you're better off saving that little bit more to get something better.
  4. So he hasn't refunded anyone for months because he pre-empted that his wife would try and kill herself at the end of January?
  5. If his missus did have a miscarriage then he'll have money left over that would've been spent on the baby. Kick his door in chaps.
  6. Yes they do. I'd imagine R32 rims would be too big for a mk3 though.
  7. Don't know what garages are like down south but I got mine fitted in 2 hours and I got my wheels aligned with lasers for £25 at the tyre place down the road, job done.
  8. Try e-mailing anyway, and see what he can sort you out.
  9. More details at this link: http://www.eastsidevw.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2848 To save you the hassle of registering, you can e-mail him direct at stuart.cooper1@btconnect.com The company is one of the best bodyshops in the north of Scotland, father and son operation. I know the son personally and can vouch for their integrity. Tell him I told you about it, and he'll sort you out. Any half decent mechanic should be able to fit them, my mate did mine in his drive in around 2 hours in total.
  10. Without wanting to sound harsh, if you're going to spend over £400 to fit GMAX shocks and springs to your car, you're off your head.
  11. I know someone that can get you Highsports for £350 and Konigsports for £460. Both prices include VAT but postage will be another £15. I'm almost certain you won't be able to beat those prices.
  12. I used Meguiars Gold Class Clear Coat Wax, did a good enough job.
  13. You pays your money.... Incidentally, I know someone that can supply FK Highsport coilovers for £350 if anyone's interested..
  14. With suspension, you get what you pay for. Personally, I don't see much point in spending £250 on a budget set up when you can get a much better quality set up for £350. Some people say it's saving £100, I reckon it's wasting £250. If you look around for group buys, you'll pick up a set of FK Highsport coilovers for around £350.
  15. They're getting to that age now, too old to be a reliable every day car with no problems, and too new to be a sought after classic. The Mk2 GTi 16v was the same about 5 years ago, now people are asking silly money for them. I've even considered selling mine, but there's not really anything that I'd buy to replace it with within my budget.
  16. It would be better as part of the EU, to have a standard font across the whole of Europe. I suggest we use the font used in Germany.
  17. Agreed, I might be at the other end of the country, but I'd have been down there knocking on his door. Then I'd go knocking on the doors of all his neighbours and telling them exactly what he's been up to and the kind of person they live next to, until he pays up. I'd even consider contacting his local newspaper, they love reporting on a bit of scandal going on in their area, especially an international con artist. I knew there was something dodgy about him when he sent me a PM demanding payment for a supercharger giving details on how to make payment after I made one post saying I'd be intere
  18. I'm 1a. Surprised the whole of Dundee's a 7 though.
  19. How come he owes C2 money? Surely you wouldn't send him goods without receiving payment first considering he won't have any credit references, etc?
