Dan! Remember me? Nick from CS I've had my VR6 for around 2 months, had a slight problem with a mis-fire (very minor) as it only does it very occasionally when it's cold, apart from that it seems very good, feels VERY Solid compared to the last few Jap/French cars i've had recently! Give me a shout if you want any help when looking at one etc

Intermittant Mis-Fire (After new leads)
nickg123 replied to nickg123's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
If it only seems to do it for a while...... i'm sort of stuck on what it could be though? Obviously it's something that gets better when it's warm etc, all i can think is that it's still a Leads/Plugs issue? If the coil pack was faulty, wouldn't it do it all the time? -
How many miles has it done then Clive?

Not sure to be honest........ he used to Run a Skoda dealer with his Dad, they sold a fair few Golfs in the late 90's too due to the takeover by VW, i would hope he knew what to do.. Will check anyway! -
I've owned my car a couple of months now, so far: £3700 for the Car £250 Service £60 Induction Kit £250 P/Plate £160 Wheels (no Tyres yet) Think that's about it..........

Intermittant Mis-Fire (After new leads)

Yeah i'll have a look - but he's a pretty competent mechanic, i'd hope he knew what he was doing when changing the leads really? They're not genuine VW leads either, probably from Euro car parts or such. I didn't ask him about the Plugs but would again hope he would have checked these....... i'll ask him anyway, Also - i guess the Coil Pack would be next in line?? I'll have a look around anyway. Thanks for the advice again - i'll let you all know how i get on. -
Intermittant Mis-Fire (After new leads)
nickg123 replied to nickg123's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
It's a 1997, the car did mis-fire before, but the leads were supposed to have sorted this..... but obviously it wasn't the leads causing the problem -
The Leads on my car were replaced, as it was expected the slight occasional misfire i was getting was caused by these. Well, it's still doing it...... but it's hard to explain. It only seems to do it for the first 5 mins of a journey, and it's bad just as the clutch is getting near it's biting point - the car feels quite lumpy (it must be if my G/F can notice it ;-) ) Any ideas what to check next?

Too late - i got them! New Suspension coming from a member here, and these rims will look awesome i think!

Hi guys, What do you think of these for my VR6? It's Black, and 100% Standard at the moment (exterior) i'm thinking of getting these wheels for it:
-
Ahhhh that makes sense now!!!! Lol - i thought it was buggered, feels like it should "click" into place to turn it on, but because it doesn't i figured mine must be faulty! Thanks for that mate!

Just saw the post about rear Squirty....... It reminded me - my Wiper stalk is really annoying. I understand that you should push it forward to turn the rear wiper on? Mine doesn't have a position to "Click" into, it just turns the Washer on if anything....... then i can't work out how to turn the rear wiper off. I find the only way to turn it off is to push it forwards, then pull it back so the front washers come on. That seems to stop it but it's not a reliable way..... Do you think i've got a dodgy switch, or is this normal?

Hi guys. My car was recently serviced this week but the lad doing it said he went to reset the computer as it was showing a service was needed, but he saw a couple of faults on the ECU? I can't remember what he said they were, but he said he cleared them and will check it again after Christmas to see what it could be. He said one of them but i can't remember the name of the fault.. Is it likely to be anything serious? The car had devleoped a mis-fire, but new leads have cured that. Could the fault have just been that problem?

I work with a German guy, he's just told me that basically it's a Golf Synchro 4wd Chassis, De-handled, Extended Wheel Arches, No Interior, no engine etc, but he's offering a V6 TDI, G60 etc Think that's about the most info you need anyway lol
-
That is well gutting. Can 100% believe every word of it after a mate of mine has been SERIOUSLY Ripped off by Abbey Motorsport. Too many of the Jap Tuners are a waste of time.
-
Well just say who it is then lol if you're so sure!
-
Would Perry handle an F1 car ok? It's gotta be someone from the last 5 years or so i'd say? I was told it was Johnny Herbert, but nobody seems to agree with that now hehe

I personally wouldn't risk lying to an Insurance Company - That's exactly what they WANT you to do! Can't you get it insured through Work if that's what you're going to use it for? Good cars, but think of the repair bills, plus running costs (Service + Fuel really) it'll be fun, fast and a good street sleeper but as i said you do have to watch out for things going wrong...... although they're bullet proof, they're very expensive to fix when something does eventually go wrong.

Love that mate!!! I just got one too - i've sent the docs off to the DVLA but i'm waiting for them to come back with my New Tax Disk etc! I got: NI2 KGG but i've had my plates made to read: NI2K GG (Nick Graham Goodall) I was quite happy for £250! Where did you get yours from? Dare i ask how much?

Mine doesn't have any badges either, except for the Front but they hadn't seen that! They obviously knew by the Standard tail pipes etc, i assume there's ways to spot a VR?? Bampson - That's exactly what my Mum said mate, too many times innocent people get killed by people like this - you could just see it happening!! At the level crossing the Mk2 was sat there with his foot down, bouncing the car off the limiter - TW@! Hope it blows up!
-
Also speak to the masters that are Chips away, they come out in a van and can do all sorts of pretty impressive repairs on Interior and Exteriors.

Last night i drove from my House in Cold Ash Village (near Thatcham) to Basingstoke with my Mum to pick up a few bits my mate has got my Dad for Christmas (He works for Taylor Made). Anyway, on the way back, just before i get near Newbury i see a Mk2 Golf GTi, and a Jetta GTI (With a VR6 Badge stuck on below it - NICE!) They were parked up by the side of the road talking, i drove past and there was a car in front of me. Without me knowing they obviously spotted me as less then a minute later i get two distinctive round lights sitting right on my rear Bumper. My Mum starts to get a bit worried

I spoke to my mate who's servicing it - he said it's probably the Leads, and as the car's at 82k he suggested replacing them anyway!?!?
-
Yeah thanks for the response! I'll get it serviced, and see what the guy thinks - he's an Ex-VW Mechanic, and i've been mates with him for years so i'm sure he'll be honest with me All being well, new leads/Plugs will hopefully cure it...... certainly can't hurt to replace them as it's on 82k miles and i believe the Plugs/Leads haven't been replaced for a long time!
