  1. The majority of late VR's have air con anyway, so it's only the leather and the lack of side skirts probably levels that weight difference!
  2. Hi mate, good thanks. Don't really come on here much any more, as not really very relevant to my new Beemer! But got an email saying I might get culled, and we can't have that!
  3. If you want something posh-ish buy a Mk4 4mo, but bear in mind they are not as much fun as a Mk3 VR! And whatever you do, don't buy a 1.8T!
  4. Spec sounds like all late GTI's - they used Solitudes on most R plate GTI's. Presumably somebody special ordered a GTI in Mulberry.
  5. Early mk3 GTI's so I would presume VR's too, had a load proportioning valve attached to the rear axle. This works on the basis that the back of the car is lower due to additional weight, so puts more braking pressure to that end. If you lower it, you have to adjust it so that it is in the position it used to be in when the car was unladen, if that makes sense!
  6. You can't just rely on the diameter and tyre size to say if they will rub. The big question is rim width, and offset, as this will make far more difference. Bear in mind, a 7x17 with 205/40/17 has a very similar overall size to the stock rims with 205/50/15, so as long as offset is similar you are fine.
  7. About the only French car I'd consider! Has he thought about getting the side vents done in carbon to match the bonnet?
  8. It's pretty straight forward really, any type of business will aim at certain types of customers, and Insurers are just the same. Some aim at everyday low-risk clients, such as Esure, so won't be competitive for a VR6...
  9. Erm, I???? :? Matth76, just figured out who you were on Sat - we had brief chat, I was picking up Steve's cabby for him. Your VR looked rather minty!
  10. Hilarious thread - what a total over reaction!!
  11. Used same K&N stuff on my Ramair, was fine.
  12. Mine had a phase of missing, and I found just taking off and firmly replacing the leads sorted it. If only everything could be fixed so easily!
  13. My understanding is that a lot of fleet operators complained as they had to keep replacing them when careless company car users bashed them on kerbs etc! They were pretty low for a standard front spoiler, even at standard ride height.
  14. Go to www.photobucket.com and sign up for an account, then upload your pictures on there. Then under the picture you want will be a tag starting with . Copy this and paste it into the post you want to put the pic in. Easy.
  15. GPC sell proper VW ones, or at least did when I last bought one from them. The GSF ones are truly rubbish. Don't fit and are brittle so crack way too easily.
  16. They would look bloody great on a VR, if they are 5x100. That said, tyres would be a pain as a bit big (width and profile) for a Mk3.
  17. Quite rare, but I have seen a set for sale before, unless they are the same ones! I've seen a 4-stud mk3 on Estorils and looked bloody good, so would definitely work on a VR.
  18. The easiest way to delock is using Golf mk3 rear door handles - no messing about required! Polo handles can still require some fettling of the lock rod on late cars.
  19. To clarify, a short shift will make your car accelerate more quickly, unless you are mk3anni, in which case your driveshaft will be hanging limp from the hub with bits of CV joint all over the road....
  20. lol... MrBen what drop do you have in your signature? Nice car. I like the morette style lights. How much were they and where did you get them? I'm on coilies so difficult to say, but I reckon it's around 45-50mm down at the front - not really that low. I don't have any morette style lights, but the Hella twins in my sig have been on mine since 1997, when the original owner paid £251.90 for them from VW!! You can get them all over the place - usually some 2nd hand on ebay for £70 upwards or new from GSF type places from around £140ish.
  21. The Phirm have normal tracking kit but not the super dooper four wheel kit that Stealth have. That said, Tim at the Phirm's methods usually work even if not particularly high-tech! Definitely use new top mounts (proper VAG ones) and it's a good idea to use new bump stops, and new bottom bolts. The bottom bolts always adjust camber on mk3's - you don't need any specific 'camber' bolts, as you do on mk2's. BTW, if you are reasonable with a spanner, it's really not hard to swap the suspension yourself, then just go get it set up. Save you a good bit of cash!
  22. At the VR6OC RR day before last, one guy had fitted one of these, along with some other mods, and actually saw his bhp figure reduce quite a bit compared to before! Just bolting one of these on can wreck the running of the car - they should really only be used where a specialist fits it because more fuel pressure is needed, and who will set it to the correct pressure.
