  1. Looks nice other than the dodgy stickers in the side windows!

    Hiya Guys!

Highlines tend to fetch a bit more as everyone wants one, so watch out for late non-highlines. Some of them were specced up to virtually Highline spec anyway. BTW, where in Croydon are you? I work there and live in Wallington, so very nearby!
  3. Buy decent suspension first - who cares what it looks like if it drives like a pile of shite?! Mine may look utterly gay with the Beetle wheels, but it handles beautifully, so that makes me forget about all the people laughing at the wheels!
  4. Lovely motor, they always look good dropped on BBS RX's, quite similar to the Anniversary's with the RXII's.
  5. Mine's got the anni spec stuff, as has mk3anni's and probably a few other people. You can get all the bits from GPC. They are not cheap though - works out to about £80 plus delivery when you get the whole lot. For the fogs, you get the front part of the unit which you fit to the back part which you remove from the car.
  6. According to the masses of documentation that came with my car, when it was rolling roaded prior to the Schrick going on (with chip and Induction Kit already fitted), it was putting out 198.4bhp @ 5627rpm and 204.3 lb ft @ 4345 rpm. With the Schrick VGI fitted, there increased to 207.0bhp @ 5675bhp and 221.2 lb ft @ 3569 rpm. In other words a bit more bhp, but more importantly max torque is quite a bit more and also occurs much lower in the rev range.
  7. I guess you were watching best of top gear last night too then! That Monaro does look fantastic fun and it sounds wicked, but I think I'd still prefer an S4 for regular use.
  8. Not kidding at all, looks ming, especially in that colour!
  9. Ugh, that's one ugly BMW!
  10. Lovely rims those, BBS RX2's as fitted to the Golf Anniversary. If you decide to go for something else, let me know how much you want for them!
  11. A pictorial guide to cutting front arches by Steve (mk3anni):
  12. Every time I see one of Phat's cars, I wish I had just a tiny percentage of his skills!!
  13. I've spent a total of about £3250 so far, and that includes the car! Bargain considering that includes a Schrick VSI, chip, exhaust, Koni shocks, Eibach ARBs etc etc and all on a 97/P car!!
  14. If you are doing it just for looks, then you'll definitely want to lower it, as it'll look bloody silly on 18's with standard ride height! Personally, I think they'll look to big for the car, but hey, that's just my opinion! Slam it on 16's or 17's and it'll look much nicer!
  15. But Justin, didn't your car have CL taillights?! In the US, only the VR's are five-stud. The 2.0 GTI's are four stud over there. So it's either a VR, or somebody has done a hub conversion, and then fitted standard VR wheels.
  16. Nice! Particularly liking the first pic, really good shot. You look very serious though!

    insurance

As I bought the car as it is, I didn't have a quote without the current mods, but I'm only paying about £130 more than the renewal quote on the GTI, so that can't be bad! I also asked how much I'd be looking at if, for example, I put on a Supercharger, and for me it would be about another £100 for up to 275bhp (currently covered up to 210bhp).
  18. Yes it's a careful prise it off job! They will come if you keep trying!

I've got to recommend Brentacre. I've been with them for a few years now, and as an Insurance Professional myself, I've been very impressed with both their Insurance knowledge, and their VW knowledge! For example, when I switched my policy over to the VR, as soon as I mentioned the Schrick VSR manifold, John knew exactly what I meant, whereas when I was getting a quote from HIC, their employee asked me 'What's a manifold'....!! HIC actually came up with a good quote on TPFT (about £400), but on Comp were over £1,000, compared to Brentacre's £650!

    group shots

Look at all those dull black VR's... who'd buy one of them?!
  21. The VR is on 71k, but the GTI was quite impressive back when I bought it - it was 7 years old and had only 37k on it! 58k now, but still pretty good for a ten year old Golf!
