just recently my VR6 has developed a major flat spot/surge! it ticks over nicely but under acceloration it drops off the power then picks up and pulls like a train! tonight while trying to see if the coil pack or lead are breaking down I revved it by manually operating the throttle body and could feel a pulsing/kick back through the cable pully! it was a definate action by the throttle body! I could feel/hear the throttle body motor operating! any ideas to what the problem could be?

Injectors and fuel cosumption
alanf replied to Justicevr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Thats why they make toroidal tanks so you can fit them in place of the spare wheel after all how often do you use the spare ?! all that dead weight being lugged around and screwing up the MPG -

Want to improve the MPG? easily done! dont drive it just keep replaceing parts wether they need doing or not then stick it the auto trader and get a TDI.............. did I just say get a TDI !amazed SSSSH! dont tell anyone I said that -

At it's lightest, it weighs 2450Kg that and the fact that it has the arodynamics of a brick !lol and an auto box that sucks juice! it aint never gonna give good MPG !sad -

Jeez man it's a brick! it's not meant to give good MPG figures! it's a seven seater, it's an auto and it's a VR6 !grr official combined figures are 12.3 so if your getting 15.5 be happy about it if you want the same vehicle and good MPG get aN oil burner !amazed -
It may be on a golf but not on a Sharan did you get this error message with the engine running or stopped? certain items will give readings showing errors depending on their operational state! all the carbon filter does is collect the fumes/vapour from the fuel tank, store it and then inject it into the intake manifold once the engine is up to temp to be burnt off it shouldnt affect the running of the car too much !mistrust as half the guys on here disconnect theirs when they fit a filter kit with a cold air feed pipe , admittedly they blank off the hoses so not to suck up crap into the

If it's up on the fire wall then it could be as I suggested? I'll go with the purge valve, where do the three pipes go to ?!

Sounds like either the EGR control valve or the carbon canister purge valve? !mistrust

Air mass meter what is there to go wrong
alanf replied to Justicevr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
MAF what is it? a cheap and nasty way to measure the amount of air flowing into the engine, done by heating a wire up and measureing the current flow across it as it cools due to the air flow, this current is then used by the PCM to adjust the fuel to air ratio well that a couple of other sensors ?! what goes wrong with them? the degrade over time due to the constanst flow of crap over them, they are heated to 800.C+ each time you switch off the engine to burn off any contamination on the wire/ film can they be fixed? some people say yes! they can be cleaned, a good electrical contact clea -
borrowed from UKSPEEDTRAPS These cameras monitor the traffic signals. They are positioned between twelve and twenty metres before the stop line. The state of the signals is monitored and the device is 'armed' when the red light is illuminated. When a vehicle crosses the stop line against the red light it passes over loops situated under the road surface just past the stop line. This triggers the camera, which takes two photographs. One is taken immediately and one a second later to show the passage of the vehicle through the signals. The date and time of the offence, together with the time whi

So it's all fixed and running smothly now?

The little valve on the oil breather (PCV) that's ticking? it's meant to, it's controlling the amount crank case fumes that get sucked back through the engine and stops flash backs in the event of a backfire! unplugging the MAF wont upset the tick over, the PCM registers a fault and drops back to a preset set of parameters, limp home mode! air intake noise? check the PCV these are known to tear! the tickover problem could be a faulty throttle body sensor or dodgy connector/loom you did say you unplugged it, you mave have disturbed it? AND FOR YOUR INFO GOD DOES DRIVE A VR6 GALAXY !alien

Resistor pack controls the fan speed, if the fan speed changes with every of the knob then its ok is the temp gauge reading where it normally does? is the engine taking longer to warm up?
