  3. When I release handbrake the passenger side rear calliper is locked on. The only way to release it was wd40 and a hammer! Once released I can drive about and use the brake pedal without the caliper locking. It appears the problem is the bolt which holds the handbrake cable mechanism onto the caliper, this seems to be really stiff. Do i need to replace the calliper or can i just replace the handbrake mechanism attachment on the calliper? anyone else had this fekin problem? i'm havin to leave the car in gear instead of using the 'kin handbrake. HELP!!!
  4. fans work fine, everything works fine except the temp needle is dead. def changed the correct switches as the ones i took out looked the same as the ones i put in. which fuse should i check or aint there a fuse for the temp gauge?
  5. I've checked th bentley manual for fuse locations, can't see ought relating to engine temperature or coolant temperature, anyone any idea?
  6. makes senses, though i've already replaced both switches and don't think they are the cause. which fuse/where is it located? thanks
  7. ignore me ignorance, why would a faulty stat not be the cause? how do i test if it's the gauge or wiring?
  8. bought a new laptop bout 3 months ago, doesn't have a serial connector so i can't use VAGCom without buying a new USB lead... ebay shortly
  9. i've uploaded a diagram of the 'stat housing including part numbers, anyone able to use this link to advise what parts I should order and how to replace them correctly? www.premieredigital.co.uk/vr6.html
  10. I'm thinking i'll probably replace thermostat anyway.... should I replace all/part of the housing, including seals AND bolts, any detailed step by step advice about this anyone?
  11. The temp gauge for engine coolant (on the instrument cluster, left hand side) is dead. Replaced the two switches found on the thermo housing - one of them was the engine coolant temperature sensor, the other was the thermo sender for ECU. Replacing these items hasn't solved the problem. The only other 2 things I can figure out are either the thermostat is knacked or the actual gauge on the instrument panel is knacked. The car drives fine, engine oil temp sits at 90 degrees most of the time, no leaks either and the heating works perfectly. Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem? thanks
  12. cleaned the TB, maf etc, all to no avail, still lumpy |-)
  13. no fault codes for either, just want to make sure they are clean. how do i clean em? do i open them up and use a cloth and spray or just spray cleaner inside? never done this before so ANY advice would be very appreciated!
  14. My rear drivers side window has developed an odd problem: it goes up and down in stages. You press the button and it goes down about 2 inches. You have to let the switch go and try again to get it to go down another 2 inches. you have to keep doing this to get the window all the way down, then the same again to get the window all the way up! all the other windows operate normally. any idea about what's wrong? 8-)
  15. how do i clean the TB, is this fairly easy to do? Also, how do i test the MAF and can it be repaired if it is faulty or is it a replacement job? :-p

  17. Here's the symptoms i've noticed over the past month or so: strong smell of fuel when starting from cold lumpy/rough idle whether engine hot or cold when sitting at idle engine revs drop if you turn steering to full lock or if you continue to hold the electric window switch down even when the window has fully raised (it's like the engine struggles to meet the electrical demands at idle power setting) The car drives ok, it can e a bit lumpy under acceleration, especially in 5th when going round a corner. I've checked plugs/leads, also cleaned the ISV, all to no avail. I have noticed a hi
  18. Hi, the black box to the rear right of the tb is making a hissing noise on my car, if i sqeeze it when the engine is running the hissing reduces, so i am sure it has a bad leak. what is this box for (my car is obd1) and would a hiss (leak) cause rough idle or acceleration probs? thanks +o(
  19. how do i tell if the lambda probe is fooked?
  20. I agree I had a similar problem with my pump replacing it sorted the problem
  21. sorted this afternoon. screwed a small screw into the hole of the broken nozzle and pulled it out with mole grips. that was easy. it was harder putting the new nozzle in it only goes in so far at first then you have to tap it home gently with a small pin hammer. sorted
  22. just sourced the part from the main dealer. the nozzle and tube come as part of a kit and cost about £4.00, not bad and they will have it in for tomorrow.
  23. I think you're right. i've looked a bit closer by removing the black plastic cover and it looks like the nozzle is attached directly to the motor assembly. i hope this part can be replaced without having to replace the whole motor, you'd think such a small item would be easy to replace!
