    Most important thing you can take to the 'ring on your first visit is a boot full of respect for the place and concentrate on learning the track instead of worrying about brake pads. Oh, and make sure you have breakdown cover! It is an awesome place, you'll love it! A few uk reg mk3 VRs turned up at the hotel we stayed (the one near the castle) in May, anyone off here? We were in blue R32 and white mk1 Golf.

    Did you get it working, I bought a cheap ass cable from them and just spent most of the night getting it working! I got this mail from the guy which I followed, got the drivers from the site he suggested and installed when prompted when the USB cable is connected, then used the usb 'com' setting and checked the 'force dumb mode' box.. using vag-com version 409.1 Good luck!     I've been getting this code on my mk2 VR but with no starting or running probs, i'll try the tips mentioned, cheers!

    I witnessed the before and after on the 'test' VR. With the stock coil pack the car had a slight flat spot on acceleration, which was eradicated with the MSDs.. We all thought that the coil pack couldn't make THAT much difference, so swapped back to the stock one, and the flat spot had returned.

    Mine does that too, I replaced the belt tensioner, but it still does it. Goes once warm tho!

    I looked at it this way, the donor engine for my mk2 VR6 had done 160k, the engine was out of the car so we did the chains/tensioners and guides and fitted the later thinner head gasket to raise the compression slightly. These parts DO wear out/fail on high mileage VRs, so we did it sooner rather than later. Pleased we did as the upper chain guide was worn through to rivets and one of the mounting points had cracked off the guide!

    I've looked in the search but can't find the info I'm looking for. Someone (may have been VR6Will?) told me you can fit the MAF insert from a new Beetle that's a lot cheaper than buying a complete VR6 0BD II MAF Anyone know if GSF do them (part number?) or is it a dealer only part - what engine Beetle am I looking for?

    Mine shows that code sometimes, as well as intermittent fault with maf + lambda probe fugged, I put it down to the cams upsetting the idle and the 6lb flywheel not helping matters. I need to sort the maf and lambda probe so will be interesting to see if they cure the adaption code.

    When I had mine tested at Stealth recently, Vince was saying some of the VRs can give wildly different results, even with the same mods. My mk2 VR is a 160k 2.8 OBD II lump out of a Passat, DR 268s, Raceland mani and Carbonio and made 209bhp and 188 lb/ft , not too bad considering vag-com logged faults with maf and lambda probe.
