  1. I like to use for ACL Competition Bearings both mains and big ends in all my customer engines where possible. You can only get ACL big ends for a VR though. Next best IMO are Glyco. I'm just rebuilding a Nothelle 3.2 (headache!) for a customer and went with this combo.
  2. Thanks chaps, i just wanted to make sure it wasn't me.
  3. Come on guys, 24 of you have viewed this and no reply?! Surely one of you could help me out and try corrado.net and let me know!
  4. I'm in the motorsport media game for a living, and to be honest any photographer who is worth his weight will be shooting with Canon. I personally have a 40D and can say that it is an excellent body. The Canon lenses are the best on the market, their latest range of lenses are truly amazing. If i'm honest the kit i have comes to a few quid, but it was worth every penny. It will take you some time to get used to all the settings but do experiment as the autoshhot function may be the easiest option but you will get far better pics when you start to shoot manual. 5. Hi Guys and Gals I was just wondering which is the best route to take when passing a cable through from the engine bay into the car. I want to mount something in the cubby hole at the bottom of the dash. Oh, it's on a Corrado BTW. Thanks Andy
  6. As title really. Browser times out when trying to get on corrado.net. Is anyone else having this problem?
  7. I did change my fuel pump a couple of moths ago, maybe a wire has come loose. I'll check it later.
  8. I used to do that on my g60 to monitor boost. I'm guessing a wiring fault somewhere. Does any of the wiring around the MAF have anything to do with the fuel gauge, or does the level sender loom run straight to the back of the instrument cluster?
  9. Bit of a weird one has happened on my VR today. After changing the MAF unit ( the car is so much better now!!) and getting a few miles down the road i noticed that the fuel gauge was reading full when it is only half? Then when i started to drive hard it dropped down to empty, then went back up to full again? When the needle goes up it kinda jumps in little stages too, not smoothly. I don't think changing the MAF has caused this, it's just coincidence, but what else could it be? Cheers Andy
  10. There are two types of tensioner bolt. Did VAG give you the right one?
  11. Thanks for that! I just did it by feel in the end. When i took the old one out the piston just fell out. The seal to hold the pressure had completely gone, no wonder it sounded noisy. How nice it is to have a quiet engine again!
  12. Just wondering if their is any particular torque setting for the main tensioner bolt on the back of the engine? As it's so big you could probably go on tightening it forever but there must a limit.
  13. Changed the fuel pump the other day as i knew it was running lean, what a difference that made! I think it's just the induction noise, or possibly the some kind of valve closing at that particular throttle position. I will try and find it over this weekend.
  14. I have had this noise on my VR ever since i had it but i can't work out what it is. If i sit in a gear right on the power band, say 4k, and then accelerate i get a slight whistling noise until i hit full throttle then it stops. The noise only seems to happen a half throttle. I assumed it might be the induction noise of the engine as i have a cone filter. Am i right or should i be looking for something wrong, like an air leak? The performance is spot on and the car runs so smoothly that i don't think it is an air leak but any other advice would be appreciated. Cheers Andy
  15. As it says, got to be the ultimate conversion. http://cgi.ebay.de/R36-Motor-fuer-Golf-IV-R32-etc_W0QQitemZ190107002942QQihZ009QQcategoryZ61283QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

  17. I have just bought a Corrado VR from a mate of mine who has had it for 3 years. When i worked at a tuning company i put it on the rolling road for him and it gave 226bhp at the fly. He bought this car and was told at the time that it had a 3.0ltr engine built from a tuner in Germany, but the guy had lost some paperwork when moving and could not provide a receipt to prove this, that was why i ran it on the dyno for him. My question is this... I have had a standard Rado VR6 before and the power was very smooth and linear, this one however does not get going til about 3,500rpm and really sets of
  18. I guess the cam is ok then. You would have noticed a problem by now.
  19. Possibly. But you really would notice it. If you are worried about it an oil change will show if the lobe has worn, the metal will be in the sump. I very much doubt it though. How many miles have you done since the cam swap?
  20. The manufacturers normally recommend that you hold the car a 2000rpm for 10-15mins. The reason for this is to complete the hardening process of the camshaft. Worst case scenario is that a lobe wears, however, you would be unlucky for that to happen. You would soon know as the car would not run a bit lumpy.
  21. Does anyone have oil consumption problems with their VR? Have read on other forums that VW say that 1qt per 1000 miles is normal. To be honest i think this is bulls*$t. No engine should consume oil full stop. If i gave a customer back his engine and said 'oh, by the way expect to use a litre of oil every 1000 miles' i would not get any business. Am i right with this or do VR's have an acceptable oil consumption figure? Cheers
  22. TSR have gone bust!!! You should seriously consider you dealer. I have heard of some crazy deals being done on new engines on an exchange basis. Also GSF use the same people as VAG for recon's, a company called VEGE Engines. If your looking for a stock replacement that might be the cheapest route. If you want a performance engienne thats a different story...
  23. I recently acquired a VR6 Corrado which had a tatty interior due to the fact that the previous owner used to take his dog out in it!! Before i got the car he had the whole interior replaced with full leather which is nice. However, there are a couple of bits in the boot area i need to replace. The panels at the side which house the speakers and the parcel shelf sits on have been nibbled by the dog. It appears that there is a material over the plastic underneath. I dont remember it being like this on my G60 Corrado, are all VR's like this or only the cars with leather? I need to replace the top
