Make a table out of the old block! ☺ -
Hmmmm I was able to put the cam in and when installing didn't notice any more resistance than normal. It was only after i had installed the cams (before installing the upper chain) and using the cam locking tool did i notice that one was 180 degrees out! So took the cam out turned it though 180 degrees and reinstalled and then put the chains on. The engine also turns over by hand ok so i think i'll do a compression test to see if that reveals anything.
-
Yes it turns over by hand.

Was swapping my cams and didn't pay 100% attention to the orientation of one the cams when i put it in. When i went to place the cam locking tool into the slots that is when i noticed that one of the cams was 180 degrees out of alignment. Will this bend a valve?

Steering rack removal - Done =D
Matt W replied to Just_Paul's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Just swapped mine out, had the use of the a four post lift and engine brace. Supported the engine with the brace remove the 6 bolts that hold the sub frame to the body and removed the rack towards the rear of the car. It may come out side ways but could foul at certain points. Not a straight forward job and difficult to explain in detail. If you have any questions send me a PM and i'll answer as best i can can. -

Might be over fueling when the engine is cold? As normally they run rich until they reach operating temperatures. Just check everything for any leaks.

Been having problems with my TB, it won't calibrate properly. You can hear it buzz (it receives power) but no clicking (stepper motor not doing anything). So I bought another one from eBay looked OK nice and cleaned up OK. However when I put this on the car it idles really high (1500rpm) and I get two new fault codes 00524 - Knock Sensor #1 00268 - Solenoid Valve 6 (N93) Now what doesn't make sense to me is why does the 2nd fault that comes up is from an automatic gearbox which I don't have. So are there differences between OBD2 throttle bodies. As this new throttle body has the same part numb
-
Normal, mines the same

The ZR3 has been released and discontinued it looked a lot like the VF charger when installed. What i have heard is that RUF have improved/redesigned the ZR2 charger which is now called the RSC. Also RUF are redeveloping all their VR6 charger kits and they will be available at the end of February (according to the website)!

If i remember when i did mine the power steering pump and alternator were taken out so i could remove the bracket that everything bolts to. Then you should have some more room to wiggle the air con pump out. Oh and make sure you get the pump specificaly for the 6cyl. engine. I know the pumps themselves are identical but the 6cyl. has different mounting holes so the pump from a 4cyl won't fit although it would work the same...

Its a 17mm allen key for the drain and fill. The fill is on the "front" of the gearbox and the drain is underneath, they are both like very large grub screws!

My VR has a funny running/idle problem. From idle up until 3000rpm it doesn't run smoothly, its difficult to describe just thats its not smooth. Here are some pictures from today and what i found... Spark plugs 1 - 3 Spark plugs 4 - 6 Cylinders 1 - 3 Cylinders 4 - 6 In cylinder 5 is oil but it smells like petrol... Tonight i am going to check if the coilpack is OK by spraying it with water to see if there are any sparks/shorts. I think the plugs themselves look normal. I have tried VAG-COM but there are no errors showing and what do you think to the cams, do they look normal? Cyl. 1 &
