Craggsy, you're spot-on with your diagnosis. Best to get them both done and use VAG bearings, they last a lot longer. Had these done on my car and after a few rear ones wearing out too often I got VAG ones and they're great. Hub has to come off so you'll need geometry doing afterwards.

There aren't any decent specialists in Leicester anymore. Could try Lion Garage I guess. I use Volkswizard in Birmingham, knows his stuff and looks after me well. If you haven't got access to VAG-COM software then try new ECU and fuel pump relays, they're only £31 for both from VAG. Cured my running problems.

how many miles do people get to a tank???

Also, it's as economical around town as it is at twice the national speed limit! -

I get an overall average of 29MPG on a full tank. Around town I get anything between 20-25MPG and upto 34MPG on a long run. I find it's more economical at 85MPH than at 75MPH! -
They're easy to replace and you get plenty of room to play with too.

Crozo, I've been having a similar intermittant fault . . . So far I've replaced Coilpack (had a crack in it), ignition leads and platinum plugs to no avail. I then replaced the ECU relay (#109) and the fuel pump relay (#679 I think) which came to £31 and so far it hasn't played up all week. Another part to this is that sometimes the car willnot start, it cranks perfectly well for ages but takes a few attempts before it starts but as I mentioned above, I've not had a problem since replacing the relays.

Try the ECU relay, I had the same problem a few months ago. It's only around £12. Have you had it VAG-COMed yet?
-
When I had a 109 Relay fault my '94 Vento VR just kept cranking and wouldn't start. Only way to start it was to reset the system with VAG-COM. Replaced the relay and because the cam sensor was cheap at £35 I did this too just for peace of mind.

I can't seem to update my gallery with new pix ( Page times-out with a spurious error. Thanks in advance for any help.

Grey box may be the DC-DC converter. If it's a 60W x4 head unit it'll need a seperate power feed unless you're using an amp too. I presume you have no manual for it. . . http://www.alpine-europe.com/alpine/cms/manual_results.php?manualsearch=CDA-9812RB

Might be worth looking on TalkAudio forum, plenty of friendky advice there.

What about the Fort Dunlop area, not sure if there's any burger joints around but it's easy enough to get to and we could park up where the shops are. Or the cinema complex just off the M6

Nah, I told her I changed my Golf GT TDI for a Vento VR6, that's when she told me you were always on here. I remember her telling me about your mkII some time ago. You need to get her some nice wheels for the Lupo!
