  1. Hiya m8, I've had poly bushes in a few of my cars and can honestly say that they're worth having. Handling's much better but it does cause a slight amount of harshness on rough roads. I'd say they are miles better than standard rubber bushes. Fitting can be a bugger though!
  2. Try this forum . . . http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/index.php
  3. I asked around before getting my alarm and the general concencus from most that had experience of alarms was to go for a TOAD. I got my Ai606 for £250 fitted.
  4. There's a chap on eBay that sells hand-made VW uprated wiring looms that are around £30, quite easy to fit and will definitely sort out the problem.
  5. I had a set of Weitec springs/dampers (not coilovers) on my old mkII years ago, supplied and fitted by C&R. The springs failed twice and the dampers failed after just three years! I found C&R's attitude to the whole thing dire. Ended up getting all my work done at Stealth thereafter (they fixed all of C&R's fcuk ups).
  6. Check out http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/ Also, ukmkivs forum is a good source of info too. Reckon on Scratch-X being the best thing to remove swirls but it may be prudent to use the clay bar first to remove all the crap on the surface before applying Scratch-X. Remember what Mr.Miagi say..... wax-on, wax-off!
  7. Yeah, I went to the studio (old hangar) when they filmed it. Pity there isn't a part No on the mats. Mine have deffo got the velvety logo on the front ones and they feel heavier than my old mkIV mats too.
  8. Hmmmm, I think the ones in my Vento are the Highline spec mats with the velvety VW logo. Vento's have pretty similar spec to highlines except for the leathers. VRSick, that's my old mkIII in your sig pic!
  9. I have 16" Speedlines and will be fitting 205-45-16 tyres on them. Standard VW bolts will be fine and don't forget to get some quality locking bolts too. The Anniversay GTI's had 215-40-16 tyres on their BBS RXII alloys but some people reckon they are a bit harsh.
  10. The larger rear wheels will grip better than the front-end thus causing understeer. Very nice car you have there matey, looks very similar to mine. Anyone know how to slap images on here?
  11. Block of wood and No Nails'll do the trick surely?!
  12. Yeah poly bushes can be a tad hard but fortunately that car only had them on the rear axle. VAG bushes are fine for regular road-use comfort on the front end because they last well but those rear bushes are a right bar-steward for wear. I'm lucky my Vento has old skool Sachs sports dampers with Eibach springs/anti roll bars When those Sachs dampers die I'll go back to standard springs with Koni T/A's!
  13. The best setup I've been in had standard springs with Koni T/A's & Eibach anti roll bars. BUT that car also had poly rear axle bushes which improves the rear end no end.
  14. MSV - I was referring to Injecta Plus, it's damn good stuff! ACF8181's points re fuelling system are spot on. I missed all this hassle with my old GT TDI
  15. Check your plugs & leads then look at your coilpack. Millers oils do a very effective fuel injector cleaner for a paltry £4 too http://www.millersoils.net/index2.html
  16. I remember reading somewhere that Toyota/Honda garages have a quality Beissparth rig and that they charge far less than most specialists to do the job too. Give 'em a ring.
  17. Yup, you can fit mkIV alluminium rear calipers if you feel the need. I helped a mate fit a set to a mkII a long time ago but we had to get a specially made set of braided hoses to match.
  18. I'm using Pagid FastRoad pads on the front with Ate PowerDiscs & VAG rear discs/pads, they're grrrreat (Tigertastic!!). Rear calipers on mkIII's are so much better than mkII's. I've managed to successfully free up both types of rear caliper in the past which lasted quite a few months. It's probably best to try this before going all out on new ones, whilst you're at it bung a 6-line braided hose kit on too - you know it makes sense
  19. I've never seen a Bentley workshop manual but everyone seems to rave about them, you just have to sift through all the US spelling and grammar. I think I saw a VR6 one on eBay a short while ago, worth checking out! What company car are you getting, anything nice...?
  20. Hi, I used to have EBC GreenStuff pads on my old mkIII GTI and they did the exact same thing when cold. My quick fix was to put the handbrake on lightly whilst driving to warm the pads up and it seemed to do the trick. . . . for a short while. Maybe the pad to disc clearance needs to be set..?
  21. Might be worth trawling the VAG-COM forum to see if there's a fix using that system.
  22. I think there's an electronic control unit on mkIII's that operate the safety feature (to stop peeps trapping their ickle fingas!). Chances are that this unit needs to be replaced. Try the usual parts suppliers for keenest prices. [ Edited Thu Mar 03 2005, 10:35PM ]
  23. I'm getting a set of 16" Speedline's, the tyre size needed to keep a similar circumference to the standard 15" alloys is 205-45-16. HTH.
  24. I know this sounds completely weird but I heard smooth peanut butter is good for plastic trim. Wurth plastic trim dressing is the best thing I've used (but I may just try the peanut butter thang one day . . . and on the car!!).
  25. Er, I'll let you know when my friend and I fit it. By all accounts it looks relatively straight forward, so much easier with the kit coming from an identical Vento too!
