    Mine does the same, very slightly in 3rd and a small bit louder in 4th, there was a thread on here about it not long ago, apparently it's pretty common i was thinking about changing the oil in the gearbox to see if it make it any quiter, my clutch also make a very slight noise, i'm pretty sure it's the thrust bearing, i've had a few vauxhall that have done the same.     I went and brought a new set today and there is a rubber/plastic type of seal that comes in the kit, it must be that that's burning , like you said the bearings must be getting fu@king HOT !!, when i took it for the mot there was only a tiny bit of play in it and the twat said cause there tappered if you do it up a bit it will get rid of the play, when i took it apart the nut was already finger tight which i though it is supposed to be so i only tightened it a slight bit which i didn't think made any difference at all to the play in the wheel but i took it back to the plonker that mot'ed it an

    Would the wheel bearing cause a rubber smell ? I got it MOTed just before xmas and it failed on slight play in the rear wheel bearings and the guy at the garage said go home tighten it up a bit and he will pass it, so i done them up a little bit and he passed it, i did think to myself i will replace them after xmas as they arnt that expensive, i think i better do it sooner rather than later ,about 15 years ago i had a mk1 scirroco that the rear bearing went on and it chewed up the end of the stub axle and the back wheel over took me Thanks Bee...

    The central locking keeps freezing the other day the passenger door wouldn't open like in sparkz's thread, the pin came up but the in and outside handles were dead, the rear wiper keeps freezing and so do the squirter's which i though were heated on vr's ? Then today i was turning around in a close that was frozen and it started to spin in reverse and it started making a horrible noise at first i though it wasn't in gear properly as it sounded like the cogs grinding together noise you get when you don't put a car in gear properly and let the clutch out, then i pulled away forward and made it s

    My cars got climatronic so i haven't got an a/c button, i noticed the aircon compresser runs all the time hot or cold unless i press the "Econ" button, which i usally do I've always wondered whats the point in it being on when it blowing hot air ? I've always turned it off to save a bit of petrol and power. Thanks for the help guys Bee...

    What ever it is it's behind the dash , because when i notice it i put my ear to the dash and it sounded like it was coming from the space where the wiper motors are but when you go under the bonnet you can bearly hear it, then when i had the deck out it got way louder that was when i found the black whatever it is and if i touch it when i turn the ignition on i can feel it spining up, it doesn't feel like vibration it feels like it's making the noise, also if it was the secondry water pump it surley it would not start spin from stone cold it would start when the engine warms up a bit.     It's not in the engine bay because when i had the stereo out and i put my hand in to the back and right i could feel it vibrating it's like a black plastic (if think) thing, i could just about see the edge of it but not enough to see what it looks like. Thanks Bee...
