I have found my leak from the coolant system. Its dripping from the joint between whatever this is(???) to the hose to the coolant resevior. I'm not 100% sure if its the joint with the hose or that a seal in this thing has gone. What is it? Do they leak? I dont know a huge amount about the AAA lump. Too many covers and black boxes. :|

I have had to fill my coolant resevior 3 times this week. From bone dry! My local garage (indipendant) took a look whilst doing a wheel bearing and said it may be the htermostat housing leaking but he wanteed £70 just to look. Where on the VR is the thermo? How hard is it to replace as i am not totally inept at mechanics so would do it myself if not too bad. Any help would be appreciated.

No joy with the adapter. Its obviously been off before but hammered back inot position with some force. I bent a universal extractor! I think i really need the correct boss. Any ideas on part numbers? Sorry for my ignorance whats PM???

I recently bought a 'D' shaped steering wheel for my 92 VR6. I also bought a Mountney boss from a local halfords. Not much of a surprise when the boss wasnt right. When i took off the original (and very tatty) wheel i could see instantly the splined shaft was larger and has a taper on it. However i was shown the mountney brochure and for the mk3 golf the part was supposed to be right. Was the VR6 different? What part number boss works?

I found elephant unpredictable. they quoted me (27, 5yrs NCD and 3 points) £400 comp with 17" alloys. Bought the car then they say £650! I was with Adrian Flux for my Renault they want $460 for the golf but if i pay monthly the total is £608! Why dont these people just get a gun? I dont want to sound old, but when i was 19 i had a Mk2 escort Mexico. 2.1 group A engine and the race suspension e.t.c. It was 90% increase in power over standard. My insurance was still only £850 with 0 NCD and only 2 yrs experience (on the road) It doesnt seem to have lowered that much in 8 years! Anyone got HIC's

Not too sure if this is possible but, i want to have a flick (mk4) style key for my mk3 keys. I know the alarm wont repond to the key press (GT auto alarm) and that the keys arein fact totally different style. but can you get aftermarket flick keys which can be cut?

Hi again all. I plan to check the MPG the old fashioned way when i get a full weeks average driving to do. Easter will break this weekend up and i know this weekend my normal driving style will be out of the window I knew the 2.8 would be thirsty but coming from a 1.8 Renault 19 16v which struggled to get 26mpg and averaged 22 anything over that is fine. cheers for the replies. Hi guys after some time wanting i have finally got a VR6. Its an early golf 5 door and so far i am as happy as larry with it. I do have some questions though. What kind of fuel consumption can i get? The computer shows 28-31mpg on my 30 mile trip to and from work when driven carefully. How accurate are the computers as 2 days journey has used half a tank which seems allot less than 30mpg more like 20. Also i had a misfire cured with plugs and leads but there seems to be some lag in throtttle response. Some people tell me its the lambda sensor and to loop it. others tell me to remove the air fi
