You didn't mention that the opening paragraph of the editon38 review went: "It was huge! More people, cars, tents - and even an all-in Wii battle on an 80-Inch Screen..." :-d 8o|
  2. LOL I Immediatly down loaded the TomTom voice pack
  3. Ok I will take the bait - at the risk of sounding like a complete thicko again why is there a pallet shop ?? So that English hooligans, sorry VR owners, can steal them whilst distracting the guard. All hear say obviously as I was tucked up in a nice warm hotel room and didn't need to burn anything to stay alive.
  4. Hardcore is the phrase indeed. I was thinking about it before camping at the Pod last weekend. +o( Just turn up and grab a space. No worries about it being full, it's a monster of a camp site. http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=50.323091&lon=6.939579&z=16.6&r=0&src=ggl The entrance is at the bottom and the restaurant ( and pallet shop ;-) ) are at the top near the GP circuit
  5. I booked using the internet at the start of December last year. I'd expect it to be the same this year. The car park was busy at Easter but I didn't see many people around the hotel ( perhaps they where busy being German and having early nights and early starts). So I doubt it was full. Saying that the hotel food isn't over the top expensive. IIRC about a tenner for a steak. But over three nights it does add up. It's the bar that's the real killer, the Bitburger does go down so easily and it's a lot more expensive than you can get it for at Lidl.
  6. Yes, but they didn't offer a discount. But it's normal price isn't bad compared to UK hotels, E45 PPPN B&B. We can book now with them directly ( http://www.goldfass.de/htm/reserv.htm ) but then we would have different cancellation conditions than if we waited and booked using an internet engine ( http://www.tkn-rlp.de/tosc.asp?OC=EIFEL&RG=IT&ID=95001186&FN=Show&FC=HO ). My suggestion for making the hotel stay cheaper is to eat at one of the pizzerias between the 'Ring and the hotel and spending less time in the bar!
  7. I doubt it. Cambridge Council put on a monster display each year. And the place I got my fireworks from do 'packs' costing up to £1450!! Not yet. Do you think I ought to?
  8. I'll see you there. I've been kindly offered a bed 'up north' so don't have to get up at an unearthly time.
  9. Good thinking as we are going to take up a fair amount of space !!!! but in my experience most of the service stations in Europe tend to be larger and slightly better equipped than ones over here. True, I've stopped at some huge ones in Belgium. But last Easter we did find some where even with only a handful of cars we ended up practically double parked. And having prearranged stops will benefit anyone without the use of a mobile or walkie-talkie, or that simply drops behind. Or races ahead. I'm looking at you As!
  10. I like that a lot. Ironic though that they put the not videoing warning over a videoed lap. Crash helmets are NOT mandatory, just highly advised. If you plan on having any passenger laps, like I was lucky enough to do with Ben Lovejoy last year :-) , most dedicated ringers will insist on you wearing a helmet. Do not wear one in a car with people who are not, as you risk butting them. It is there to be enjoyed, there are no prizes for being the fastest. There is always going to be someone faster. One coach speed lap is enough for you to say you've done it and your car to earn it's badge of
  11. Oh, I'm sorry, my bad. But it's not a year ago since we sat in a pub somewhere discussing insurance quotes and you declared that you where only TPF&T. Travel / medical insurance is cheap and the right European breakdown cover ( NOT AA ) should get your car back, be it broken or crashed. Beware though, and this one is mainly for me, that some companies won't spend more on recovering the car than it is worth. Both of these are recommended regardless of the level of car insurance you have. TG
  12. I'd say with both JC & VBH appearing it would have been part of old Top Gear filmed between 1997, when VBH joined, and 1999, when JC left. I'm guessing the youtube clip came from someones personal video collection.
  13. Well the fireworks have arrived. How I love the internet. :-d [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1192708694_2196_FT199321_image_042.jpg][/lightbox] [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1192708694_2196_FT199321_image_038.jpg][/lightbox] [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1192708694_2196_FT199321_image_039.jpg][/lightbox] [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1192708694_2196_FT199321_image_040.jpg][/lightbox] [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1192708694_2196_FT199321_image_041.jpg][/lightbox] I'm expecting a visit from the security services any day now! 14. My policy (could (*) ) exclude de-restricted toll road, any track etc "However, we will provide cover to meet the requirements of the Road Traffic Act." If I can get them to state, when advising them of my European trip, that 'Road Traffic Act' means that act of any country I travel through then they can't get out of their 3rd party liability, as German traffic acts apply during tourist driving (*) thats the wording of the current on-line policy document. I think it's not in the one in place when my insurance started.
  15. Excuse my stupidity but which one ???? It's part of the 'Don't Crash' group!
  16. I'm going to use the 'Driving well within the limits' company.
  17. [Hijack] A CG-lock for £34.99 delivered! http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?197611.30#post_201064 [/Hijack]
  18. What your Policy does not cover: * Liability to other participants, to any third parties or to passengers or any property damage. So will only cover your car! You will still have to rely on your normal insurance for 3rd party cover!
  19. Really have I made a mistake *-) When I looked throught the summary of cover it seemed to be ok and was listed as a specific insurer for driving your car on a track !!!!! will have to have another look :$ Look at the policy document. http://trackcover.com/track/FullPolicy.html it's all travel insurance this and travel insurance that. And the benefits on the last page only list the usual travel incidents and doesn't mention limits of cover for anything sounding like a car accident. So at most it's travel insurance for dangerous sports
  20. Seems only to be travel insurance to me! American Express ( Ben Lovejoys recommended travel insurer ) will cover you for £14. They paid up, no questions asked, after he had a little extra holiday in the nearby hospital. Even cheaper options are available. However, Barclays did claim riding a bike there went beyond normal risk. But they'd have difficulty arguing that for a car: The Nordschleif is listed on a Saga guide as to what to do in the Eiffels! TG As we are on the subject of insurance, asking your car insurer out right whether you'll be covered is guaranteed to get a no and will a
