  1. I'm dubious about these: "FAMILY FORTUNES 3) Name the capital of France? - F 6) Where is the Taj Mahal? - Opposite the Dental Hospital 7) What is Hitler's first name? - Heil " FF questions never have single, correct, answers.
  2. It's a pilgramage that every petrolhead should make once in their life. Although, unless you are unlucky ( or over confident ;-) ) enough not to come back, it's impossible just to go once. I regret not having gone sooner in life. Seademon has a couple of tickets for the ferry. TG
  3. I was lucky, my ECU is old enough to have had a socketed EEPROM. On newer ECUs they are soldered in place so do need some nerve, or the help of a TV/radio repair man, to replace. Oh, and they only come in OBD1 flavour.
  4. You might be surprised. I was when my 160K mile OBD1 showed 184 at the last rolling road day. At that time it only had a K&N panel, decat and the unproven 'Power plus gasket' Superchips do have a poor reputation, mainly because they do cost 'real' money whereas the Ebay knock offs are less then a tank of petrol or a night out.
  5. I thought the badge looked odd too, so checked with the RAC/DVLA, it is registered as a VR6. I agree with PHM, SA import.
  6. OBD1 have more latent potential, VW tuned them down to avoid German tax laws in the early 90s. OBD2 claim the same power output but it's not unusual for an OBD2 engine to produce nearer 190. The generic chips just makes the OBD1 map more like the OBD2 one. We are talking pukka ECU eeproms not just a resistor which makes the engine think the air is denser. Obviously a custom remap is bound to give better results but you did say you where on a tight budget.
  7. Yey, direct action! Let's boycott Inters.
  8. The 2.9 TBs are bigger so should/could make a slight difference, however there has been a bit of discussion recently as to whether a 2.9 manifold is good or bad ( http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?144196.30 ). A custom remap will be around £400, but being an OBD1 it would benefit from a generic £30 ebay chip ( http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?145259.post ) I don't have a before and after rolling road figure, but would agree with JezMoz that it has made a noticable difference. I'll have a better idea the next time I do a 1/4mile sprint. T
  9. A selection of pictures of engine parts often asked about: [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1173217299_2196_FT0_1170616278_4100_ft0_top.jpg][/lightbox] [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1173217299_2196_FT0_1170616278_4100_ft0_leak.jpg][/lightbox] Aux Water Pump, very common to leak. [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1173217376_2196_FT0_1171467164_3722_ft0_p2140175.jpg][/lightbox] Gear Box mount. [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1173218021_2196_FT0_dsc00280.jpg][/lightbox] Main plug from ECU to engine wiring loom. Can cause problems if the Aux pump has been leaking over it. Lots of stuff!
  10. I think you'll find we like them all. After all there's not much 'standard' about putting a 2.8l V6 engine in a Golf. I think the only criticism it will get will be 'Get it lowered' Tg
  11. My guess would be that your PC doesn't have the correct .3pg audio decoder. I get it when viewing QuickTime encoded movies in a normal video player.
  12. I refer you to the previous answer on size: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?162232 As for makes, I guess for speakers that cost ~ quality, ie don't go to Maplin ;-)
  13. LOL! After the 'serious brain trauma' picture where the soft top had hit the toll both I thought i could cope with anything. But that is just sick.
  14. 01259: Fuel Pump Relay Circuit -J17 or Fuel Pump Relay (J17) 00533: Idle Air Control Regulation or Idle Speed Regulation
  15. Oh, I hate it. If pushed I'd say this one http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=50.374489&lon=6.967492&z=17.8&r=0&src=ggl as it has a blind exit but is flat out in the dry. In fact I'm not particularly keen on any the corners, they scare the b'jesus out of me. :S Can't wait :-d
  16. Here's a link to a library of DTC codes for those who had a go with my code scanner http://www.auteltech.com/images/DTClibrary.zip
  17. A lovely silver one from Oban appeared recently. So it's at least the third. In fact so many I'm thinking of starting a spin off group. TG
  18. Crikey, good show. No wonder the paint has rubbed off.
  19. Gutted for you mate. Another white van man writes of a VW. Donna had weeks of work and various trips to the chiropractor(?) after a white van caused less damage to her GTi so I expect that you will really feel it in a day or two after that impact. Milk it, the insurance company is only going to screw you over with regard to the car pay out. TG
  20. Hours of fun.. Think I'll have a new one every day. Until I get bored anyway.
  21. I think your budget will be fine. Camping: 11E a night. We paid 33E for two nights last Spetember, but I think we actually paid for a night more then we needed. Unless Saturday nights are more expensive. Anyone speak German? 'Ring: 19E singles, reductions on multilap tickets; which can be shared or sold onto 'Ring whores ;-) so say 15E a lap + 4l of petrol! Last Easter, IIRC, people only did 4 laps. Food: From memory, 15-20E for a resturant meal with beers. Lunchtime snack 5-10E or there are two Lidls locally which should be open on Saturday. Extra Beer: Who long is a piece of string :
  22. The Hella problem is not quite the same then; the dipped comes on as well as the rings, not full beam. That would be annoying. Hella Cellis plug straight in ( some old cars need an adapter 'cos VW changed the shape of the plug/socket ) They are supplied with brass relay bridges for drivers of lesser models, with single headlights. I suspect the Hella problem is caused by people using these clips on GTi/VR6s. I tried my Hellas on my 92 VR6 and late 96 GTi and they worked the same on both. I wonder if the adpaters you've been supplied with are for 'CL' class Golfs and include wiring to replic
