There is going to be a rwyb at the london volks fest this sunday :-) TG
  2. Baaaa, I'll be there. VRSick has started a thread in the VR6OC events forum. TG
  3. Hiya, My car has developed a drone when moving. Sounds like it's coming from the passenger side of the transmission: It changes in tone with speed and does it clutch up, clutch down, in gear, in neutral, acclerating and coasting. The obvious verdict would be a wheel bearing, and the wheel is indeed stiff. But the other wheels is slightly stiff too and more worringly, I feel, is that inner front tyre squeals when turning tightly. I have had a bad diff in a rear wheel vehicle but that only complained when accelerating/powering the wheels and would subside when coasting. Is it the same with FWD
  4. There does seem to be a high correlation between people voting cruise and people who have been to the 'Ring! So: (h) for me. But don't diss 1/4miles; it's not parking up and gives an adrenelin rush. TG
  5. OK. Here's my 2p worth, as everyone else is just laughing. If the battery is disconnected for a while, the ECU can need to 'relearn the engine'. Yours could have relearned with the wet CPS connectors, afterbeing disconnected for a day or so. Did you disconnect the battery for long the second time when drying out the CPS? Could it still using the same ECU settings although the CPS signals are better? TG P.s. LOL!
  6. Hi, Don't be scared we are all friendly, and have all been there. Yes, because the plugs are so deep into the engine a special tool is needed to safely remove the leads. If you take off the entire inlet manifold, I believe it is possible to get a good grip on the end of the leads. No other speacial tools are needed for a service, IIRC. On a high milage car like yours, the nirmal recommendation is to use a semi synthetic, as it's less thin and won't find the worn parts so easy to get past. At 212km, if you have no history of the chains being done before, then I would have to say yes. I had a
  7. I think all you VW petrol heads should enjoy this: http://www.ronpatrickstuff.com/ My favourite quote is: "I was thinking of putting it into an import car show but the promoter told me that it looked too plain and recommended that I put some decals on it, lower it, and put on some aftermarket wheels" TG.
  8. Hi Steve, That's a heating element. Quite what needs heating for why, I'm unsure. TG
  9. It's not a sensor, it's a pressure valve. It does nothing until the pressure difference is enough and then opens to vent the crank case. It's also got an oil trap to stop too much being burnt. The only problem of running it as you are is that the pipe leading into the air system will be letting in unfiltered air to the engine. TG
  10. American ones are (badly) built in Mexico. As where the very last original beetles. TG.
  11. Just realised how close it is to me. I'm there. Can't resist those 1/4miles. TG
  12. Try both companies for either/any part. By the Run on Pump, I take it you mean the aux water pump. Germen Swedish and French ( http://www.gsfcarparts.com/ ) do original Bosche ones. I got my dizzy cap, recently, from euro car parts www.eurocarparts.com. They do list two rotor arms, I managed to get the wrong one, but the cap was right. TG
  13. And £20 of 'fake' badges from a show. TG
  14. Glad you found it £20 well spent. I nearly matched you with a final 15.8(92), which I am well happy with. Especially as I won the sprint as well, for once. Cool group shots. I didn't even realise the Pod sign was overhead when we arranged the cars. Doh! TG
  15. F****** yanks! Then there's the one (urban myth?) about the woman who put her dog in the microwave to dry it off after a walk in the rain. She sued the maker because it didn't say not to in the manual. TG
  16. Hi Steve, My initial thoughts: The obvious free starter is stripping the inside. -ve makes it look tatty. The seats are pretty heavy, but can be useful! A carbon fibre bonnet costs £300-400. No idea about the weight saving. I have never seen any other light weight panels. Polycarb windows are light, but again, can ruin the looks and scratch easy. A De-cat is a mix of both schemes, gives a fraction more power and weighs alot less than a real Cat. Light weight engine parts count as engine mods. TG
  17. Oh yes, there with huge nobs on. AND will be running the 1/4 mile. TG
  18. likely the main water pump then. I've read of the internal bearing seals failing a few times. Or possibly the o-ring between the pump and the feed pipe from the thermostat housing. TG
  19. That's top news mate. I bet you are going to sleep alot better tonight. TG
