    RAC Farce

My starter died on me last night. It took THREE hours before RAC assistance arrived ~ After waiting 1.5hrs I spent 20mins on hold to find my case hadn't even been assigned to a patrol! ~ ~ Not a happy bunny at all...... TG
  2. Hi, Be aware that although the bushes themselves aren't badly priced the actual fitting can be a right pain the the arse. Mines in currently getting the front done. The passenger side control arm/wishbone is alright, but the sump gets in the way of a bolt on the drivers side (UK). So either the engine needs to go up or the steering rack need to come down. Last week I had the back done. The bolts fixing the rear axle bushes where so seized that they had to be ground out. So worth it though. My '92er feels like a new car TG
  3. If you're lucky it could just be the o rings around the switches/sensors, and blanking plate. I've had two fail in as many months. The water wasn't spraying out but I caught them early. TG.
  4. A date for your diary. Not! The weekend 2-4 June is "Rock Am Ring" so there will absolutly be no tourist driving. The use it for a car park / camp site! Although with Depeche Mode and Placebo on the bill already I'll might just have to go anyway. TG
  5. Just remembered, the 2nd April will be a year to the day since I got Bex (the VR6). Where better to celebrate? Count me in for the stand. TG.
  6. I've got IE6 SP2 installed at work and it hangs. Firefox 1.5 at home doesn't. If you watch, it's to do with the adverts, for me anyway. The page hangs whilst trying to load them and as soon as an ad appears the page works fine. TG.
  7. Have patience. There is absolutly no point booking before the timetable for tourist driving is announced! I think 'views of the 'Ring' is an under statment. The track comes within spitting distance from the first floor rooms. Good for an early start, not so good for hangovers. The entire Eifel region is a tourist attraction ( it's volcanic don't you know) and is stuffed with hotels/guest houses. Admitadly, the ones in Nurburg & Adenua do book up quick. But remember we are going to need a 15-20min drive to the 'Ring anyway, to nicely warm our engines. TG
  8. Count me in. Whenever! After two fly/drive trips last year I am so, so, aching to get the VR6 there. So much so I pre purchased 10 ferry crossings without thinking. Pete: A thought, could you use VR6OCs good name to beg consumables ( 10s brakepads, Ls oil, a set of samco's) on a Sale or Return basis to support the trip?
  9. Bex: after an alcoholic friend! Or VRoooom if I'm feeling childish.

    Topgear

Repeated @ 7pm On Sunday. !lol The 911 Turbo was a wet lap !sad As was the NSX type-R. The VX220 was dry The Bucatti monster is enough reason to keep my VR6 !heart. Oh the heritage. TG
  11. Hi guys and dolls. Here's a link to a Russian web site stuffed with VW related PDFs I came across whilst looking for info for myself. Thought all you DIYers might appreciate it, if you didn't know about it anyway. The site is mainly in Russian, but theres enough english to allow you to navigate to the files which are mainly english, or german. http://volkswagen.msk.ru/index.php?p=page01 TG
  12. I had the same symptoms yesterday after I managed to short out the cigarette lighter. Had blown fuse 24, again 15 amp blue. Tucked 2nd from the door end of the fuse panel, tucked up behand the panel. You could have easily missed it if looking in poor light. Or else, again, check the wiring behind that fuse. TG
  13. I have run GTi alloys on my VR6, no problem. In fact they go back on this weekend. FYI: My VR6 has the earlier, smaller, brakes discs. TG
  14. I am so, so, sorry for you mate. Never had a car I really cared about until the VR6. But it does remind me of the importance of fixing the virgin chains on my 153Ker! TG
  15. Be aware, according to the good people over at Club GTi only the 'Melbourne loop' is going to be used for the
  16. gaffa/duck tape and jubilee clip(s). Got me back from Santa Pod after I managed to put a 2 inch split in a hose. tg.
  17. This site http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/ has basic specs for 'everything'. My '92 3door handbook, the parkers VR6 info sheet and the above site have the kerb weight as 1155kg. I'm inclined to believe more in eat this' figure as it's fact rather then theory. P.s. did you pay for the use of the weighbridge, or just asked nicely?
  18. Hi, Sorry I didn't see you guys on Sunday but by the time you arrived I was already sprinting; making the most of the cooler air. I'm very happy with a 15.547 in my stock, 13yo, 152K Golf VR6. I did take some time off but getting to the stand was immpossible. And seeing how shining and bling all your examples where I felt I would be letting the side down in my rusting old Dedicated Ring Toy. Maybe next time, if I put more preperation in. Maybe even putting on my 17" alloys, which I personally don't really like. the goth P.s. The MK5s I saw on the track where pulling 15.2s +/- .1
  19. Woohoo,. Simple questions even I can answer. The service interval is your standard 10K or 1 year. Mines on 150k with the original chain. I believe it's the tensioners you actually have to watch for. Poorly designed on early cars and prone to fail. (fingers crossed) TG
  20. Hi, Is there still space on the stand for an absolute newbie, in a very stock VR6? I won't be able to join the convoy as I'll be coming from the other direction. P.s. Will I need to put my VR6 badges back on? Normally I don't like to brag.
