  1. from the little I know it depends on the charger and whether the car is OBDI or OBDII
  2. if the crank sensor had failed you wouldn't get a spark
  3. it certainly looks like it may have problems. but saying that it doesn't look too clean above the HG line either. look for further evidence such as creamy oil and combustion gasses in the coolant. halfords do a kit; some crystals you add coolant to and check reaction colour.
  4. it's a DIYer. by the looks of yours two jubilee clips and a nasty spring clip. best be prepared to replace the spring clip with a small jubilee as they are never the same one they've been removed. the mk3 part comes complete with the corrugated intake pipe it attaches to. the worst that will happen is that it could allow a small amount of unmetered / unfiltered air in. But is more likely just to leak oily air out. So no more than a bit of a smell.
  5. the water spraying out of the front is probably the water transfer, or crack, pipe. Which, as the name might give away, tend to get brittle and crack. that corner of the engine does have some of the narrowest walls and it does look like it's leaking water on yours.
  6. a bad sensor would cause the ABS to fail so that the brakes can lock up. however it does sound like there may be something else wrong if the feel of the brake pedal changes.
  7. think this year I'm going to be on spirits too: Goldschlager & Vodka or Jagermeister & generic energy drink
  8. fighting torque 2010 seems to have your name on it ;-)
  9. Not a bad quote, I'm older and live in a low risk area but because I'm single the insurance on my standard GTi is not alot lower than that. NCB discount has a ceiling so any more than 7yrs doesn't make a difference. Also age doesn't effect the risk of theft. Also remember that all us honest motorists have to pay £30-£40 each year to cover the uninsured :@
  10. My facebook isn't letting me look at anything other than profiles. Is something up with FB or is stupid Virgin peeking at all my packets?
  11. sounds alternator related. is there any thing in common when the light comes on, like being in slow traffic, or goes off such as hitting a motorway?
  12. voltage. check the voltage across the battery with the car off and again when running. the alternator should raise it by a good couple of volts. although i may be talking bollox as I use a gadget ;-)
  13. does sound like the alternator to me as well. for around a tenner you can get a tester from halfords / maplin / etc to check. alternativle I'm sure a multimeter can be used
  14. Doh! All I can say is "ha ha ha ha ha ha, giggle giggle giggle" ;-)
  15. Hopefully practice I won't need to call on again. but everyone who goes should be well informed at least
  16. you havent gone and bought one of the ebay electric fans have you?
  17. Neah, mullets are still big in Germany ;-)
  18. Note the following cars shouldn't have stopped where they did, nearly blocking the track. And the cars which stopped on the left later should have just carried on as the accident was in hand. This shows far better accident procedure: ( And a nice looking 'rado ;-) )
