Changing The Rear Pads - What Else?
gloster replied to Seademon's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
The calipers on the rear need to be twisted and pushed so a caliper windback tool turns this job from a pain in the proverbial to a breeze. Not cheap [think i paid £20 for a decent one] but essential. Prob worth trying to borrow one local? -

Cheers for the comments gents. Bruv picked it up a couple of weeks ago from a 85 year old in Ipswich and believe it or not that was only the third time it has been out of the Ipswich area since he bought the car from new. Does need a good wash and polish desperately [thinking clay bar would do it the world of good] 8-|

Just a few pictures of my brothers Mk1 Golf, he's currently pondering selling her due to a new baby and home on the way. Just added it to rate my volkswagen.net to see how it goes down and thought i'd see what you all think of her. Oh and yes the mileage is spot on, most of the mot's are with the car along with the original bill of sale and one owner from new + my bruv.

I too will be there. -
Oo Oo I have one of those ! :-) In fact I have 2 of those if you count the one that squirts the coolant up the inside of my windscreen :-( [steps up next in line- hoping mine is a common coolant leak...] See you all there.

Got the waterpump replaced this week and it hasn't helped at all' date=' not happy as running out of things it can be and i really can't afford a money pit at the moment. :@ Looking at a new head gasket now under the theory that its failing without the water mixing with oil, [as no gunk in either tank'] straight out of the head when under pressure. Been told it may be worth replacing the thermostat first but car has no heat issues with water or oil and fans cut in as expected when required. Is there anything else it could be? Is this correct?

Not gonna disagree with matth76's comments at all as these two come highly recommended as the nuts for VR6's by the vast majority. Are you Mr S Racing or Mr T Phirm by the way mathh? :-p

Used Jabba this week but not for servicing- mechanic seemed to know his stuff and they are all very into their vdubs generally, though i did ask for a quote on some engine work after which i was told i would be phoned back with... four days later still no call back. Ref VW 2000 never used them myself, heard both good and bad things about them locally so difficult to say. When i got my VR i took it to Cooks VW for its first new to me service simply for the reassurance factor and the stamp in the book- it not cheap though.

Amazing work.

Yes it was' date=' and no i won't be going there. Called the local vw specialists and was told it shouldn't be more than an 2 hours work if you know what your doing [believe the engine needs to be raised? -at this point i won't do myself'] but they are busy for the next month... been quoted £100 ish + parts which i'm relatively happy with, thats by a local mk4 golf specialist, but seem to know their stuff. Just hoping if it is the water pump thats nacked, this is all thats wrong!

Adjustable suspension at a budget price???
gloster replied to gloster's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Thanks all. Would love coilovers and getting to that way of thinking, have to see what happens with my other current issues ref the vr... its all money money money and hassle hassle hassle, though driving my bruv's 1.9d clio was a something of a reminder of why it will be worth it. Thanks RCF will have to grab a copy and take a look whats said just in case.
