  1. Yup, that's the problem I've read, very little tread to pull the water away...
  2. The 888's I've read are lethal in the wet - pick carefully
  3. I'm going to have to drop out of this one. Not happy about it but lack of time and money mean I'm having to fix the house rather than racing round the nurburgring Next year for definate though . Anybody want to buy a ferry ticket lol
  4. Probably to sell it as it costs me near 15 quid a day in fuel
  5. it's snowing! http://www.nuerburgring.de/fileadmin/webcam/webcam.jpg
  6. Exact pricing is being confirmed, depending on numbers we can get - they are very light so postage is pretty cheap considering they are coming over the pond Think they are about 25 quid, well worth it
  7. Wanted to let you know about a great mod I did to the car over the xmas break - I installed the dieselgeek nylong shifter bushings. "These upgraded custom bushings replace the spongy black rubber bushing that is currently installed in the end of your stock front/back cable end. This mod was designed to make your A3 GTI/Jetta GLX or TDI and Passat shifter feel like the highly sought after MkIV Sigma shifter!" Installation took 15 mins MAX and only required a 13mm socket (unbolt shifter weight and end of shifter cable, push out old bushing with hands, place nylon bushing in cable end, re-assemb
  8. Thanks to Antera309 for this guide - made it alot easier than doing it "blind" Couple of extra pics to make it even clearer: To rewind the piston in the caliper, remove the disc, bolt the carrier & caliper back onto the hub then use the tool [bought from halfords] to wind the piston back in - I had to use the windback tool to apply some pressure to wind the piston back in - just winding it didnt seem to do the job... Also, couple of pics to show how the ABS ring comes off the back of the disc
  9. I've used them in the past - I've got two thirds of a bottle spare I think if you want it. I would always recommend that you use plastic primer and matt black paint to be honest
  10. Get them off a scrappy car or any of the people on here breaking a car
  11. Hope this helps (http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i77/SiGainey/Golf/calipers.jpg) From memory, there's a 7mm allen key slider instead of the upper 13mm bolts on the 280 calipers
  12. Sorry, must study previous posts before posting lol!!!!!
  13. Ok, so I've been keeping an eye on this and when the gague is in the red, i'm filling to the brim with 35 litres (isn't the tank 55 litres?) Does that point to the sender unit or the pod itself?
  14. on the trader... [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1197450383_2656_FT0_media.jpg][/lightbox]
  15. Fitted some eibach -35 springs to the front last night and when turning the wheels on full lock, i found that the droplink rubs on the CV joint when the wheel is in the air. What's the best way of fixing this? It can't be a first, I must be one of the few who haven't lowered their car by now lol!
  16. Have people booked the hotel yet? keep on meaning to but not sure if people are 100% going to this one etc
  17. You need a 21mm socket to undo the top nut then there's 2 18mm bolts at the bottom of the strut, remove, then use spring compressors to compress and remove the spring then re-assemble. Not a massive job if you've got the right tools. I undid the top nut using one of these (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cir13c-1-2in-impact-wrench-kit-12v) and it did a great job. No more faffing around with 7mm allen keys and deep ring spanners What you have to do is get the wheels aligned afterwards - I did a rough and ready alignment using a spirit level on the wheel
  18. Howdy I agree but is the correct way (21) then (25) then (28)?
  19. Can someone double check if I've got things in the right order and the right way up (I know I'm missing springs lol) as I want to get the shcoks built up and ready to install in one easy hit (ie pull old ones out, install new) as I dont have much time at a weekend and can build the shocks up in an evening etc Shows the threaded bush (28) above the top rubber mount (25) but surely that isn't right - it's spring-> spring cap -> bearing (with curved bit pointing up into the base of the top mount) -> top mount -> threaded bush (to hold it all down) then through the body and another mo
  20. Nice job! Well done Did it start first time?
  21. Howdy, Does anyone have a link / writeup for doing a heater matrix on a Mk3? There's a superb one for the Corrado here http://www.corrado-club.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8848&highlight=matrix but I've not seen any for a Golf. Anyone got a link to share?
  22. Have you thought about cleaning the throttle body butterfly - how clean is that? If it's sticking, it wont be as controllable as if it's clean. Are you OBD1? If so, have you cleaned the idle valve?
  23. Very much doubt it m8 - it's an inlet air temperature sensor and I believe the ECU uses it to determine how much advance / retard it needs - hotter air = less advance
