Is there anyone running uprated calipers behind the standard OBD2 15" BBS wheels? I want better brakes but dont want the expense of buying bigger wheels and bigger brakes as the current discs / pads are only 2k old!

Yeah, they dont use sand anymore - it's differing media depending on what they are blasting. Ali is soft so damages easily. I just calleda blaster from yellowpages and it's not expensive but produces much better results -

It's not easy as the wheels are so intricate. I'm getting my blasted and then i'll paint them myself - it's not that hard once the old stuff is gone
