    Dilemma

i hunted high and low for a stock VR with aircon and leather as extra - like the proverbial hen's teeth, only ones that were coming up were jap imports. GIRLVR6 what side of chester are you? i'll keep an eye out for you :-)
  3. i daily get 32 mpg from my VR6 auto - my 98 mile round trip commute is practically all motorway, with some congestion. on general combined, i'm getting around 27 mpg - and i don't hang about. duncs
  4. brilliant - what a great reply, thanks for that! i'll get it serviced at vw stealer but if chains will cost that much, then eek, rethink time! my engine's quite tappety, i'll listen to the .wav and hope it's nothing similar! i bought bugs in jan this year, with 99k miles, now showing 111k. had quite a lot of work done after purchase but didn't touch the chains, vw stealer advised they were ok. cheers duncs
  5. hi folks my VR6 has done 10k miles since its last service (in Jan) and the OEL dash display is coming up. two questions :- a) should i get it serviced pronto, or can i get away with it for another 5k miles just by adding a few litres of syntha silver and crossing the old fingers? chains never been done. good precautionary move to get them done at the next service, or leave alone? any pointers much appreciated - ta. duncs

    Dilemma

hmm highlines in decent nick tend to be a bit pricier than 2k imo. if i were you and car-less, i'd bite the bullet and go for it. if you can live with the colour - after all it's you that has to look at it on the drive for the next however long! i almost went for a grey one (i was after silver) but got lucky at the eleventh hour when a silver came up within budget. duncs
  7. Cheers Jez much obliged I'm getting some window stickers done and don't have my VR at the moment, needed to know dimensions so I didn't get one too big. Duncs
  8. Hi folks I need to know how wide in inches the VW golf rear window is can anyone please tell me? Thanks! Duncs
  9. Too right. I see so many fools using their mobiles when driving still, if a call is that important then it merits using handsfree, no question. Problem is there are plenty of muppets out there to keep us ranting about! ~
  10. Since purchase in Dec 2005 I've been using Bugs as my daily driver, my commute is 92 miles round trip every day :| so I'm adding circa 500 miles a week, but hey, you can't take it with you when you snuff it, can you. However I drive my 928 at weekends , Bugs is more suitable for the commute, less comfy but more practical and easier to park (and more economical). Duncs
  11. Bugs is on 103,000 miles. I'm getting a slight tap-tap from the engine, and have no idea when chains were done or what the state of the head gasket is. Am driving slightly nervously!
  12. Bugs is satin silver. Someone once told me they go faster in silver :-) Duncs
  13. Bugs is a 5-door and proud of it. Duncs
  14. i'm an affiliate manager for an online travel company. am using bugs my VR6 as my daily driver 100 mile commute a day. duncs
  15. i remember seeing a review of BP ultimate, normal grade unleaded, and shell optimax on telly (top gear or something, it was on sky a few weeks ago) and the results were that for performance engines shell optimax gave you more bhp than the BP petrol. i haven't used either in bugs, just normal unleaded, and am getting around 28-29 mpg on my 500-mile a week commute which is mixed motorway and heavy urban driving. bugs is an automatic, too. worst figures i've had on a run have been about 22-23 mpg. when i was regularly driving my porsche 928 i used shell optimax, there was a noticeable improvement
