  1. OK, so sad maybe, but my VR6 is called Bugs. Have you named yours?!
  2. i was quoted £200 for a full diagnostic service from one dealer in manchester, and £220 for the same from a dealer in chester. so it really varies. car had 98k on the clock at the time. duncs
  3. looks not bad at all. all that interest and so much time still to go, too. the price makes mine look even more of a bargain - if mine worked, that is..... !dodge
  4. mine is an m-reg and tends to run at anything from 70-94. however on the coolant dial on the left hand side of the dash, it is always very low unless i am sat in traffic for a while. i suspect my vr at least runs cool most of the time anyway and it's only in traffic that it heats up. duncs
  5. My m-reg VR6 is sounding very lumpy at idle and losing speed in drive (auto). My garage say it's the coil pack which needs replacing. I notice a similar problem recorded in the car's service history, it's done 99k miles, and the coil pack was replaced at about 60k. therefore my question to you is, is it likely to be the coil pack again, do they really fail that often?

my commute is 100 miles daily and half of that is motorway, half urban rush-hour traffic. i'm averaging 27 mpg which that considered isn't actually that bad. remove the rush hour and on clear runs i'm guesstimating circa 30 mpg+ repairs ok but i'm learning the hard way to steer well clear of VW main dealer, best to DIY or find a local cheaper specialist. duncs
  7. Hi folks I have trim missing from my driver's side skirt and also passenger front bumper just under the fogs. Anyone know of a Northwest supplier who's best to contact regarding replacements? Ta muchly Duncs
  8. Just been quoted £313 incl. parts VAT and fitting to put in a new passenger front window motor by my local VW dealer. And they're serious!!!
  9. thanks for your advice guys, much appreciated. and pretty spot on as it happens. the VW garage which then phoned to inform me that it's the thermostat housing and pipes which have cracked, are leaking and thus need replacing. a sigh of relief was breathed by me - until they told me how much they wanted to charge for it - £220!! ouch :@ duncs
  10. Hi folks My VR6 is in the garage today for diagnosis. Basically losing coolant, with coolant light flashing, but no signs of engine overheating and no discernible power loss or steam. No water coming from the exhaust pipe either. Should these symptoms indicate Head Gasket problems or, due to lack of steam, more likely something like a seal or hose issue? Looked like the leak was from the rad rather than anywhere else. It'd be helpful to have some insight from any of you, before the garage call me, as I'm worried they might say Head Gasket regardless and I'd like to know a bit more about what I
  11. lol i was about to bid until i read something about a toyota starlet....
  12. Alright folks, It's been a steep slide into VR6 ownership for me. My motor has 99k on the clock and is an auto 'M' reg. Lumpy running problems persist, mainly at idle or around 30mph, despite having the car serviced at VAG dealer last week, 358 quid, too. And yesterday I noticed water running from the bottom of the radiator when I stopped at a filling station. That'll explain the flashing coolant light on the dash then... The day before, the oil warning light had been flashing too. Surely one week after a full 20k mile service, I shouldn't be experiencing these kind of problems? Do I have any
  13. Hi folks I need to replace these on my VR, the current ones are knackered and I have one missing, thought I'd ask here first before trying evilbay, can anyone recommend a supplier? Thanks Duncs
  14. What I am mostly noticing is a real engine judder when the car gets to about 35 mph either accelerating or decelerating when in D(rive). At any other speed it runs fine. At idle, the engine ticks over fine but every now and then seems to throb quite noticeably, making it run lumpy, almost sounding like it's about to pack in. Could this be related to the ignition pack? :|
  15. Hi folks, Help! Just had my VR6 serviced, I'd noticed a stutter when driving and the auto box changed around 30-35 mph, usually when decelerating and changing down, resulting in a juddering and loss of power unless I put my foot to the floor. Post-service, the car still has the stutter, anyone had this before and recognise the problem? Cheers for any tips Duncs
  16. have you tried admiral? they own elephant i think but when i had some problems with elephant last year admiral came good for me, which surprised me. i just had my elephant quote for my VR6,
