Vento VR6 - Is it possible to remap to get more power?
DBoy replied to DBoy's topic in Engine Tuning
cheers, i definately want a remap, so i guess i should prob start saving now! Just waiting for the cylinder head to get skimmed and the head gasket and bolt set, then build it all back up! I think while half the engines out, ill get my brother to do the timing chain aswell! Anyone recently tackled a timing chain? -
I've finally managed to get enough money together to get my vento vr6 engine rebuilt. The engine went at 160k due to head gasket problem, so the block getting a lite rebore, new pistons rings, new pistons and robs, and it getting a reskimmed cylinder head thats covered 78k. Since this is costing me a small fortune (parts only - brothers sorting out the mechanics for f all!), im wondering whether its possible to remap the ecu to get some more power out of the engine? Its a 1992 K reg OBD 1 engine - thats 174 bhp standard, just wondering what sort of gains i could expect and rough cost, if anyon

Sounds like the car is running in safe mode, so you wont get a very good mpg. Usually its something to do with the temp sensor, I know on my G40 Polo, removing the temp sensor and reving it 3 times above 3000rpm puts it in safe mode. I would try disconnecting temp sensor, rev it above 3k for a minut or two, switch off the engine connect sensor , restart engine and rev above 3k rpm 3 times, see if that takes it out of safe mode. I dont know if this will work, but i supppose its worth a try, ill have a proper look at my vr6 manual to see if anythings in there.

i think my vr6 plans will have to go on hold for the minute, my f%$~ing bank, nat west kindly sent me a letter telling me to clear my overdraft! b"$%&^d's!
-
unfortunately i cant afford forged pistons, firstly im skint and living in my overdraft and secondly my G40 Polo costs a fortune to run! Hopefully when the vento's back on the road i can rid of the G40, and spend it on the VR6!

Originally the head gasket went on the engine, aswell as the crank bearings. On taking the block off, the piston rings where knackered, which has sort of scored the internals(nothing major). While the blocks off, id rather spend the money on it, so ill know its right, rather than buy a 2nd hand engine and have the same problem!

Hello Forum, been away for a while, finally got my Electrical And Electronic Eng Degree! Now its time to sort out my vento! Anyway, im having then engine rebuilt at the moment, by my brother. Ive got a new cylinder head that had done about 75k miles, and im repairing my original block. Im having the head skimmed, and ive bought some new piston rings (£220) from a local eng firm. The Blocks getting a lite rebore so it can still house the 2.8 pistons. Ideally i would like to get a full rebore to 2.9 or 3.0, but funds are pretty dry at the minute! Ideally i would like to strap a supercharger to

If your looking to get your charger serviced/rebuilt i would look towards germany. There are pitstop developments and jabba sport ion the uk. Ive heard bad things about jabba, dont really know pitstop, but both are quite pricey in comparison to RPM tuning and SLS in germany. An overhaul over there wopuld be about 500 Euro's possibly more, but works out cheaper overall. A standard charger should last about 30-40k miles before it needs an overhaul. Seals should prob be changed every 10k, and bearing every 20k, just as a rough guideline. My g-lader on my G40, hasnt been serviced, the cars done 10

Exhausts? Standard or Sports? What do you think?
DBoy replied to DBoy's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
With regards to the engine, Its a 1992 Vento VR6. It had 160k on the clock, and the bottom end went, due to the head gasket not being done. Thats my main priority when i get some money in! I dont want to buy a 2nd hand engine because i could have the same problem, so im going to have head skimmed, Crank reground, new gaskets and bolts etc, so i know that the engines sound! -
Exhausts? Standard or Sports? What do you think?
DBoy replied to DBoy's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I cant really splash out on a new exhaust, as the engines f&*ked, so the main priority is to get that sorted! There is a way of driving about so its not so noisy, just takes a little practice, usually involves driving about with very lite right foot! I just learnt the hard way - ie spend first ask questiosn later! You have to make your own mistakes before you can learn from it. Personally i would never put a sports exhaust on any car! My G40 polo is testament to that, it had sports exhaust & induction kit, as soon as i put it back to original, it was alot better! -
Before the engine went on my VR6, i had stainless steel catback exhaust system put on, mainly because the original system was on its way out! I spent £280 on a stainless steel catback system. I was told by the mechanic that the size of the back box would determine what sound it would make, ie: Small: Corsa/Saxo Boy Racer Sound Medium: Subtle rumble sound Large: Not very loud, but still a rumble I opted for the Medium back box! The garage put the medium back box on with a silencer, but it was stupidly loud, so they had to put another silencer on it! When my brother came to pick me up in th

Will a Corrado VR6 2.9 Cylinder Head go on a 2.8 Vento VR6?
DBoy replied to DBoy's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Sorry, i dont know what "iirc" means/stands for? If i was to get a 2.9 ABV Corrado cylinder head, and put it on my engine, would it be alrite, in that i will not have to mess around/modify anything? Or will it be straight forward, and i will not encounter any problems? -
Will a Corrado VR6 2.9 Cylinder Head go on a 2.8 Vento VR6?
DBoy replied to DBoy's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Will the corrado 2.8 (ABV) cylinder head be a direct fitment/replacement for the 2.8 VR6 (AAA) head? Will i have to mess around with anything? Will all the holes/gasket fittings etc, line up with the bottom end of the engine? Im guessing that all the gaskets/bolts for the engine will be the same? -
Ive got a 1992 Vento VR6 with the engine blown at the bottom end. Rather than buy a new/used engine to stick in, i am going to temove the blown engine and get it sorted properly! Ive recently bought a Crankshaft and Pistons, as i know they are f*$ked. I know that the head will need re-skimming, and i am going to have the crank that i bought re-ground. As i am going to go to the trouble of pulling the engine out, I would just like to know what i could possibly do to the engine, in terms of internal modifications to possibly improve the BHP/power/torque?

Just wondering what you people think about Lexus Lights? I dont mean to offend anyone who has them on their cars, i just think its a quick way to ruin the look of a car, especially with VW's! Personally, my opinion is that i hate them in any shape or form, even on the original lexus is200! I have seen quite a few nice VR's, the only thing that i think that lets them down is when they stick lexus lights on them! Any way what do you guys think?

LPG VR6 Conversion? Good / Bad Idea?
DBoy replied to DBoy's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Unfortunately i dont. A friend of mine in Bolton, supplies and fits them. Im looking to spend about £600 with him (mates rates!), i think for a VR6, you would usually be looking at about £850+VAT (approx £1000). There is a place in Bolton, bit far from London, please see the link for more info: http://www.f1automotive.com This guy specialises in Rolling Road, LPG Conversions and Corrections. I had my G40 rolling roaded, he also did a smoke compression test and cleaned my injectors (I know this i s beside the point). But when i was there i had a chat with the owner, and he showed my his M -
Unfortunately my G40 didnt sell, so i bought a new supercharger instead(£500)!Im just going to keep it now, until i finish uni! I got offered a Oak Green GTI MK2, as a swap for the polo, but the insurance was £2500, and it turns out that it would have been cheaper to insure my vento at £2000. Hopefully the vento will be coming out of retirement soon, for its engine rebuild and a full respray! i can wait till its back on the road! Since ive had the G40, ive not been really bothered about the VR, but since its going to get done i remember why i bought it in the first place!

I am currently considering getting an LPG conversion for my Vento VR6. The kit that i have seen, uses a single inlet, that goes onto the throttle body via an adaptor. I have been told that with single point injection, you get some power loss, as opposed to multi poing injection lpg conversions. Just wondering whether anyone in here has had there VR6 converted to LPG, or knows of anyone who's converted a VR6 to LPG?

My Vento VR6, had 160k, before it went. My mum was driving it, the oil light came on, but she carried on as she was only less than a mile away from home. When she slowed down, oil started pumping out of the engine, nearly caught on fire, and the Fire Brigade were called.

Ive currently got a G40 Polo, thats up for sale. If it dont sell ill end up keeping it, i more than happy to run if for another year or so. If it does sell then i have a problem - What car do i get next? Im only 23, so i need something i can get insured on. Thing is ive got a Vento VR6 (Blown head gasket) which will be a full engine rebuild over time. Ive had a MK2 Golf GTI 8v and this G40. When you've had something like a G40, everything else seems slow! My budgets about 3k, it doesnt have to be VW, just something that has Plenty Of Character, adn is relatively quick! Any Suggestion?

Does anyone here have a Supercharged VR6? Im just interested to see what they are like to drive? They must sound Awesome? How much would you be looking at for a kit? Did you run into any problems on installing it? I've got a 1991 G40 Polo aswell as my VR, and its quick for a 1.3 (113bhp standard). When my VR's back on the road, and ive go some money, i want to Supercharge it!

Just had a read of this new golf gt, I've got a 1991 G40 polo. So im guessing that this golf gt will be rapid! I think once you've driven something with a Supercharger, you'd be hooked! You cant beat that the sound that it makes! Ive made many BMW, fords and Vauxhalls move out of the way on the m/way and the people driving tem are usually shocked to see that they cant shake off a little polo! When my VR's back on the road, and ive go some money, i want to Supercharge it! Does anyone here have a Supercharged VR6?

Hello people. Just though id post a new thread on the above! I drove my mates VR6 Highline yesterday for the first time, and i was shocked to see how different it was from my Vento! First i thought it was slighly more powerful than mine - a good thing! But i was disappointed about the overall handlingand braking of the golf. It seemed to take longer braking, and the steering was alot heavier, even though its got 16" bbs' on it. Ive had a Mk2 Golf GTI, so i know how golfs handle in general! Personally i think the Vento handles alot better because its longer!
