    got my car back :-) the chains and tensioners cost around £150 - £170 something like that. all in all it cost about a grand (including the new engine) but got a warranty that covered the first £500 so it could have been a lot worse really

    hello again i have another question for you guys... was just wondering if my old engine was actually worth anything? the crank is chipped and it has 8 bent valves and my mechanic wants to know if i want my engine back or if he should get rid of it. i know i can salvage some things (plugs and leads etc...) but i dont know a great deal about engines so wondering if you guys could give me some advice

    cadguy how did you spray your heater control surround and still keep all the pictures and numbers on them? always wanted to spray mine but didnt know how i could. gauges look really good too!

    sorry but i didnt actually buy the obd 1 engine i just found it and was wondering if it would be ok in mine. i used 2 online spare parts finders to find my engine:first choice spares and 247 spares. if you type in all your car details on their website they txt you quotes. give them a go i think i got a really good deal. sorry i couldnt be more help

    new chain being done as we speak... my old engine had 95k on it, had all the tensioners and guides done last year, so thought id be ok but then it just went ping!

    thats what i thought tbh, its just a bit of a pain having having to shell out so much cash but im not gonna chance it after whats just happened to me

    im not sure about the chain either tbh, do you reckon its worth replacing the chain on this new one before it goes in? dont want it happening again but not sure how much more i can afford at the moment!

    my drivers one keeps doing the same too, my passenger one just works when it wants to! very very common problem i think!

    ive managed to find one from a 98 golf with 67000 miles on it for £400 so im quite happy really, thought id have to pay nearly twice that for a good one!

    :-( my timing chain decided to snap a week or 2 ago and the mechanic that is fixing it said that it has done so much damage i might as well get a new engine - gutted! anyway i dont know a great deal about mechanics so was wondering if you guys could help. i found an engine from a 94 vr6 which i assume is obd 1, mine is a 97 model (obd 2) so was wondering if there would be any problems with it fitting in mine? also heard from various people that obd 1's have less power than obd 2's, is this right?

    in my experience inxx lifters are utter pants! had some on mine and they were fine to start with, after a while they just stopped working so took them off again. :-(

    recently my speedo has started going a bit crazy, its shoots up and down all over the place completely randomly, sometimes it just dies altogether. i went to my local vw dealer and they said it could just be a speed sensor which would be 20 quid (or they could do a diagnostic for 60 quid an hour labour!) so i bought the sensor and when i fitted it the problem didnt go away. i then tried to see if there was a loose connection somewhere on the actual dash unit itself, but still no luck. has anyone got any other ideas cos im all out and i dont want to have to go back to the dreadded dealer!!

    i always wondered about the fuel light too, mine doesnt seem to have one, but i guess the only time youd know for sure would be when you ran out of petrol! seems silly if they didnt put one on

    ive had my vr6 just over 6 months now and the headlight warning buzzer has never worked at all, its starting to annoy me now especally the other day when i left my lights on and got a flat battery! :@ i thought it wouldnt be that difficult to sort out but ive checked all the fuses and now im stuck! any one else had the same problem? any ideas?

    think the splitter is of a seat toledo, i know its definately some sort of seat anyway

    i think im gonna leave my car as it is for the moment, might not sell the arches just in case i have a change of heart tho!

    they are original plastic arches, they are looking a bit tired but no scratches, i was gonna colour code them before i put them on anyway, hmm... i dunno... i might keep them just in case!
