    Today i was driving along in my 1996 vr6 and the airbag light is coming on for some reason. What does this mean? Is it just a problem with the airbag or can there be anything else wrong? Also apart from a Vag thing what other way can i get rid of the problem? Many thanks :-p

    No free play on clutch at all before inserting, so what is the problem anyone know?

    Hi, I noticed lst nite when i push clutch in and out theres like what can only be described as something stretching when I insert clutch, clutch is not slipping but jst worried. As well as this gearbox seems to be wee bit notchy anything i can do to counter this problem?

    Hi, wee problem wit my 1996 vr6 golf, I have noticed recently coming down gears especially into 2nd the car burbles and splats(backfires slightly) I have a sports decat on and a miltek system not sure if it is due to this, the car seems to be going ok tho. Last nite however i was racing it a little and noticed a strong smell of petrol coming through car from vents as had cold air blowing opened bonnet and cudnt see ne leaks also checked fuel pump in back bt theres definately no leaks in it as it was covered in dust. Im afraid of going up in smoke so Any suggestions to either problem r they lin

    Hi,ive had my 1996 golf vr6 for a few months now and its a cracking car. I had always wanted one since my uncle had one when they first came out so, I sold my celica gt4 wrc(255bhp)to get one. The golf is extremely quick, not jst as quick as two previous cars the celica and mr2 turbo and thats where the problem lies. I want more power... lst nite raced my mate in his leon cupra r and was about a car behind him which was good but i want to beat him so want your advice on best mods to do.     Found out wot it was, ull never guess it was a plastic bag caught on the cat and burnt to a cinder

    Last night was out wit my mates spinning about my local town and suddenly there was the smell of burning within the car and no1 smokes so knew wasnt that. Anyway it seemed to be anytime i stopped could smell it,oil and water temp was normal so nothing wrong there although it did smell of dirty water burning. I filled my coolent bottle up with water other day could it be this? I also opened bonnet and there was a distinct bubbling noise from right hand side of engine block but nothing leaking. Any Ideas wot this cud b? Thanks

    Hi, ive had my golf VR6 now for jst a month and a bit and am nt happy wit the handling it in its 2 boaty (altho im coming from a celica gt4 with 4 wheel drive)... I know this is something the vr6 is renowned for its cack handling but the person i bought it off put in the koni sport suspension kit is it? Comprising off new shocks and springs. Im thinking of changing these to coilovers as prefer the car to be rock hard what coilovers are best for pound for pound. Is there anything else i can do to improve handling? Any help much appreciated

    Hi, Anyone know any good vw companies in northern ireland as am thinking the vr6 might need timing chains done and was wondering was anyone out there from northern ireland?

    If it sticking would this cause major damage or will it eventually free itself? How much 2 replace tappets and what else should i replace at same time?

    Hi,i posted recently about my 1996 vr6 golf making a weird noise at 4000 rpm and everyone who replied said it was tappets however if it was tappets would it not make the noise all the time this noise only happens at 3900-4000 rpm and its like a loud ticking noise whenever the power band comes in however disppears after 4100 RPM any ideas to what this could be as its really annoying me? Maybe it is tappets if so how do you quieten them? Thanks Richie

    Hi recently ive noticed on my 1996 vr6 that when driving theres a strange ticking/tapping noise. I dont believe it is the timing chain as its silent when at 1200 rpm. The noise only kicks in at 4000rpm when the car lifts and the noise isnt very loud only like a shutter then it goes away as the car revs but its worrying me. Any Idea's what it could be? As well as this noticed the car oil is heating up to 100c on the wee digital clock normally was about 94 96 would these two things be related? Any help would be much appreciated... Regards Richie

    How did you sort this problem as im havin the same problem with mine i have to go to 2nd then back to 1st as im slowing till it goes into gear theres no synchro noise so what would it be?
