the gearbox, clutch and fly have to come of to replace chains anyway so wouldnt bother if there done anyway, but wonder why they have been changed so early in the first place, they usualy last longer than 65-70k....
-
up to 8 psi on a charger, youl be ok with standard compression ratio and standard head gasket... i personaly wouldnt lower comp ratio @ 6psi, if turbo then id say above 6-7psi advised to lower cr... the only thing id bother doing while head is off, is maybe cams if you want some more power up in the rev range, but ul need mapping with the charger maybe even injectors if your still on brown tops... skimming peice of mind maybe do it, shouldnt cost you anymore than 40 quid

Main bearing shells... HELP!
6potmkII replied to richa3turbo's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
i had this prob about a month ago, top bearings stay the same, bottoms have changed, they have the groove down the middle like the top shells, will be better for oil flow/lubbing... -
depends on how much you want to throw at it and whos doing the work... c2 kit doesnt look too bad, i reckon you could make your own kit for under 2k and have approx 300bhp.... thats if you carry out all the work yourself + the price for mapping

yes at the mo kev i think its my only option if i want a decent oil cooler (a must) and water injection... plus peti money to get there and back comes to a grand alone....

vr6 turbo - what oil temps do you guys with turbos see
6potmkII replied to 6potmkII's topic in Engine Tuning
yeh was cruising at 85mph yesterday noticed it went to 116, i knew turbo would heat the oil up just didnt expect such a big increase. only using shabby 10w40 oil at the mo just running her in, another 100 miles or so will change the oil and filter and stick on an oil cooler with decent oil maybe even 10w60 selina racing oil which is what i used in my old 208bhp punto... would a mocal 16 row be sufficient enough guys? as any bigger, will be hard putting it in a decent place i.e. behind nearside front vent -
how much is this mnagement fitted and mapped?? im looking to run about 11psi turbo, and getting it mapped in couple of weeks just keeping my options open at the mo, at the moment im thinking stealth standard mangement.... will work out about 4-500 with petol money going there and back....

268's id say ul notice gains from 5k onwards, when i fitted them to my mk2vr when it was n/a, i more noticed loss in low end torque around town and upto 70-80mph but on long runs like motorway felt better. defenatly not a pin back experiance from just cams.

or just seen the EIP ones for $900.... -
what mods do you have... if your running FI you wont want to go hotter ul want to maybe go down to a cooler grade, and if your not FI and your vr doesnt rev any higher than a standard vr does you will not need to change your plugs....
-

might aswell get the steel headgasket while the engine is in bits, and for the 600 you have left maybe cams as chains will be coming off and you wont need to pay labour, and a remap

A chain job was done in 2004. VW here in Oslo did that. They fitted doublechains from a OBD1 car' date=' instead off singel chain. And they fitted a OBD1 tensioner. WHY I dont know, When putting the headspacer on it was tight. WHY? OBD1 tensioner is longer and have other threads than the OEM OBD2. Fitted a OBD2 tensioner, and everything was good to go. I did not know about this Tensioner thing, but now I know:) [/quote'] yes b ut do the timing mrks all line up now example: cams at tdc position and crank pulley mark line up with tdc mark on the engine?
-
nice one mate looking good why was the chain so tight because of the head gasket? did all the timing marks line up exactly with the bigger head gasket?
-
-
-
quick Q to double check: when youve fitted a spacer head gasket to drop comp ratio to 9:1, the timing marks do not line up exactly ie when cams are in tdc position and locking tool is applied, the tdc mark on the crank pully will about 5-8mm before the tdc mark on the engine casing. so when you remove the cam locking tool and rotate the engine so crank pulley is at tdc mark, the cams are slightly advanced this was the closest i could get it yesterday and pet it down to the fact that the cam sprockets are slightly higher now... cheers
