vin diesel

Can anyone help with this problem? My beast is loosing water through the top of my expansion tank, i've changed the tank and the cap but it's still no good. The previous owner only had water running through the system i was wondering if the fact that there's no antifreeze in the system is causing the problem?? Temperature gauge does not move so doubt that it's head gasket!! Mail me if you have had the same problem.
