Thanks for the reply. I’m running Avon ZZ3’s 215/40/ZR17’s, and have switched the rears and fronts around. These are directional, so never swapped them side to side. I also had them rebalanced when I had the alignment set. But this hasn’t made any difference. Good point on the rear axle bushes, and seeing that I’ve done the front bushes, I’ll take a look at replacing the rears. There is slight play in the tie rod to steering rack knuckle joint, but not very significant. Could this be of any consequence? Thanks John

My Golf VR6 pulls to the left when driving at low speeds. But when you get up to about 100 mph, the car seems to track straight. After it started doing this, I inspected the front end and found that the right hand wheel bearing was shot. I’ve replaced both front wheel bearings, both front CV joints inner and outer, both tie rod ends, both front bushes with Powerflex units, both front ball joints and both link rods. (Wishbone to anti-roll bar.) I’ve had the car setup up on a four-wheel laser alignment system, and the car still pulls to the left. Any ideas what else can be done to try and ge

When I changed my rear discs, I just knocked the rings off, and placed them on the new discs. Unless yours are rusted, and need replacing.

You'll also need new brake hoses, as the connection to the bigger brake calipers are different. Getting the hose off, that's mounted on the inner wing will be difficult, as they usually rusted. Mine was a pain to get off.

I’ll be tackling my VR6 front end next weekend, once I’ve finished off the cossie this weekend. I’ll be installing Powerflex bushes on the wishbones, ball joints, wheel bearings, sway bar bushes etc. Look forward to your pictures if you get there before me. Cheers John

You have to replace the hoses, as they're a different fitting on the bigger calipers. I did this conversion a while ago on my VR6. I struggled to get the hose off the fiting under the wing, as it was fairly rusted on.I bought a special brake hose spanner for the job. Can get these from Halfords. Good luck. John

I’ve got a MK3 VR6 which was imported from the USA, so is therefore left hand drive. Some one has knocked off and broken the passenger wing mirror. The question is; do the mirrors on UK cars have different magnification between the drivers and passenger side? Will I be able to switch them around? How different are they, or am I going to have to go to a dealer and get one in from Germany? Any help is appreciated. Thanks John

Depends on your driving style, and how deep your pockets are. As your car is a 1993, I assume that you'll have the 280mm disc fitted. I changed my VR6 280mm discs to the 288mm Tarox G88 40 grooved disc, and upgraded to the bigger and later caliper. I also changed the rear discs to Tarox 40 grooves, and fitted Tarox pads all the way round. The breaking is great for what it is, and is a huge improvement over what I had before. This suits my daily driving style. If you wanting good breaks for track days etc. then upgrade to AP Racing, but you'll have to fit bigger rims etc. This will cost you. Th

I bought these some time ago, not checking what size discs I had on the car. It turns out I had 280mm, and these are 288mm. Therefore I'm on the look out for some 288mm calipers and carriers to replace the older 280mm calipers and carriers.

Hmmmm, Gary (Geastb) I've got an Escort cossie, 330 BHP with light blues GGR engine etc. Wouldn't mind meeting up??? How about those 288mm calipers then?????

Those pads are the standard size for the front, 280 mm disc. The discs are 288 mm, so does the 288mm disc have different size pads?

Do the 288 calipers use the same brake pad, or is this bigger as well?
