  1. Is there any way to check this?? Any ideas? Cheers
  2. I think i have a very slight coolant leak as my windscreen is always steaming up. I have changed the pollen filter and cleaned out that area of leaves so its not that. It is always steaming up after i have been for a run and the car then steams up so it must be a very slight leak as it is not going through much coolant but there is a slight smell of coolant in the car. Also there are no apparent leaks anywhere and the carpets are always dry. So i am thinking of putting some rad weld through the system to see if it stops it. Anyone else used this to cure the fault?? Cheers Mark
  3. Nah its the fuel filter its pissing fuel out so replace that in the morning.
  4. The divers side of my cars windscreen is always misted up and it feels like the air is not blowing through as much on this side as the passenger side. I have replaced the pollen filter and cleared out all the crap and there is nothing on the drivers side. The heater appears to blow on all four stages and is very stong on the middle of the windscreen. Is it common for some sort of blockage in the air ducting? If so is it easy to clear? Cheers
  5. This morning as i went to start the car it took quite a while to start. As i turned it over the starter had to run for a lot longer than usual before the engine turned into life, when it did start it was running as normal and with no issues. Its just the point that it normally starts instantly but now it took like 10 seconds on the starter. Now i thought its cold but this afternoon i went to start it again and the same thing. Once it was hot after driving home it starts instantly. Is this likely to be signs that the fuel filter is on the way out? Its just seems that the fuel is not getting
  6. Rusty the pump i got from vag parts that i listed above is the new improved type with metal fins so its what you need. Aux water pumps are quite expensive though.
  7. Yep the one i ordered came with the metal fins much better!
  8. Its really easy and they only cost £20 for the pump and seal, i also replaced the belt. See this link http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?151352 it will show you how its done takes about 1Hr. Worth a look what temp is your oil running at? Also this link http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g3cooling.php is where i got my pump from.
  9. This is a pic of my buggered old water pump. I would advise anyone who has there oil temp running high to have a check of the water pump. Mine had done 114K miles and going by the water temp gauge it all looked ok only tell tale sign was that the oil temp kept on climbing upto as far as 114 degrees thats as far as i let it go. Simply let the oil temp climb then free wheel and see if the temp comes down thats what mine was like.
  10. Hi Rusty, The pump i am talking about is the water pump which is driven by the belt it was totally knacked they are supposed to leak when they fail but did not. Not one fin was left on the pump all broken. The pipe i am talking about is the crack pipe which runs between the thermostat housing and the engine block beside the water pump.
  11. Well had a problem with my oil temp always creeping up and discovered today that the issue was the water pump, mine had no fins on it so bugger all water circulating. New pump installed! Anyway last week i managed to break the crack pipe and so got another and installed it today, put everything back together and now i have a leak at the thermostat end. I have taken the thermostat housing off and checked all the seals all looks fine, Also pulled the crack pipe off and made sure there were no leaks where this goes into the thermostat housing all looks fine. Seal for the face of the thermostat
  12. Well i have removed the air con radiator from the car as it was knackered, but now i am looking to get shot of the compressor as well when i install a new water pump so am just wanting to find out if anyone has done this in the past and if there are any instructions. I will then just get a new belt without the air con. Cheers
  13. Cheer Xyber, Thanks for that, can you get them from the likes of euro car parts?? Thanks Mark
  14. Today i was replacing the oil temp sensor on my 1996 VR6 and i managed to break the oil cooler water feed coming off the plastic plpe that goes from the engine beside the alternator and the thermostat housing. Now it is broken on this plastic pipe and i need to replace it. I have looked on the vagcat site and it is not clear what the pipe number is anyone know image below shows the pipe! Second question does this pipe just simply push into the block and is held in place by the thermostat housing?? Cheers
  15. Cheers yep new leads and plugs all good now!
  16. Well i removed the Air Con radiator yesterday as it was appearing to block the main radiator quite a bit and also there was no gas in the aircon system. Also fitted new plugs and ht leads and new pollen filter. Car now runs a lot cooler on the oil temp and also when i stop the car the fans are not running as they were before removal. Oil never really goes above 104 now. Also with the new ht leads and plugs no splutter when i take off result. Cheers
  17. After i have been for a run in the car on a dry day and leave the car for 30 mins i come back and the windscreen has misted up a bit, what causes this is it signs of matrix going? There is no smell of coolant and it does not appear to be using any coolant and interior feels dry up the carpets. Only appears on the windscreen any ideas?? Cheers
  18. Yeah i saw them and asked the seller to put on a buy it now price which he kindly did, but i missed out on them as my work wont let me access eBay! Bummer. Cheers anyway
  19. Hi All, Firstly a big thanks to xyber who has been helping me out with my problems so far. Anyway i have had this problem where the cars oil temp keeps on climbing under normal driving, have seen it go as high as 114 before i freewheeled and let it come back down, I have checked the car out with Vag-Com and no faults found i only have the freebie one off ross tech 409.1 Have changed the oil and filter, the thermostat and housing to the awesome low temp thermostat, fitted a new aux water pump as the old one was knackered. Flushed the system so does not appear to be any blockage as i ran the hos
  20. Hi, My 1996 VR6 appears to run OK when cold, but once it heats up it is very spluttery on throttle when pulling away from junctions. Any ideas what would cause this? I have done the fix on the coil pack and the problem is still present. Cheers
  21. Hi All, Well today i did an engine flush and changed the oil and filter to Synta Silver and then took the car for a run. Still the car oil temp creeps up went as far as 114 degrees and at the same point the water or coolant temp gauge crept just short of 110 mark. Not good! I was not thrashing the car only sitting at between 60 and 70 for around 25miles, i had to let the car freewheel to get the coolant back to the 90 mark. I am sure the oil would have kept going up at no point did it come down other than if i slowed down to a crawl when stuck behind a lorry! I am now starting to wonder if
  22. Is it worth getting the fan early switch also? If so do you need the harness adapter?? Cheers
  23. Cheers guys, that will be my first change the oil.
  24. Hi, Hopefully not going to be a repeat of my last VR6 problems. Just picked up my 1996 Highline with 113K miles on the clock, noticed that the oil temp took ages to register and then just kept climbing as far as 110! Now on my old 16v and 8v mk3 this never rose above around 90 on the oil temp as well as the coolant temp. Anyway covered around 30miles and the car once stopped ran the fan for around 15mins before it cut off. The car has been sat idle for months and has only done 300 miles since March. Its not been serviced in ages either so is it likly just needing a oil change?? When i too
