Back to my project after 2 years !
AWB70 replied to AWB70's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Ok will do m8 if its got some engine literature it worth the fee alone, BTW I think its £15 these days but I was looking for a haynes manual which would probably be about that. Has anyone tried these workshop manual cd-roms that are often on Ebay? -

Thanks for that will let you know the results of the sniff test. I'm looking at the vr6oc premium membership, does the pack contain information on stuff like doing the head gaskets? Also I could do with knowing what else is worth changing while the engines stripped out. -
Hello again I havn't been here for a while due to work commitments. I have a P reg highline, I was due to do a service when I noticed that the header bottle was full of bad news custard and it had been needing oil top ups roughly a half ltr every 6-8 weeks, strangely the sump oil is quite clean! Anyway I was working away at that time, the tax was up and being my toy not the family motor I garaged it up and left it, That was two years ago lol and now I have the time I'm back on the case. So far I have flushed out the water system charged the battery & the old beast started up straight away

You might be onto something there m8, when I was pulling off leads one at a time to find out which pot was missing, I did notice that when lead 6 was off that now and again I could see the spark arching from the coil pack to the head, I did clean it all up and check for crack but I never saw any ,visble anyway. Hmmm time for another closer look I think. *-)

Im wondering if this is a common fault? I have a P reg and mine done the same thing, at first only when it was damp then all the time. I changed the plugs and leads which showed a plug had been shorting across onto the lead blowing holes in it. Now it only does it when its been outside all night in the rain on revs upto 1800 the sorts out when its warm.Any suggestions?

800 grit would be better for keying basecoat and putting clear over would be an idea too, without the clear the base will oxidise and go white, u know that bit where u polish it and looks mint then drys as if the polish is still on, thats the effect

Very worst case scenario m8 is that it might be swarf I was a panel beater spray painter for 15 years and have seen this before many times, its caused by hot metal coming off the grinder when the cars not properly covered which burns into the paint and stays there and rusts, even if the car has had no bodywork they often get parked next to a car that has when its in the garage. Like I say though I sincerely hope not though. A freind of mines car which was parked next to a lamp post that was getting cut down by the council with a stihl saw, they covered his car which was white, even a respray
