  1. Without doubt: Bugatti Veyron for day to day driving (this is fantasy land after all) and Caparo T1 for trackdays (with a 997 GT3 RS as trackday backup car !) I'd find room in the garage for a a Golf W12-650 too!
  2. Are the badges on the back of the VR6 just stuck on? The badges are silver and I'd like to change them to black via a little respray (have done this with the grill badges and have been happy with the results) - so I'd like to remove them, respray then put them back on. So the question is - has anyone else removed and re-applied VR6 badges from the back of their car? If so - how do you do it? Thanks
  3. I did an afternoon at Brands Hatch Indy through MSV (motorsportvision) on Tuesday. Weather was brilliant and had a fantastic time. I wish I could do one everyday! That didn't help much with regard to the thread topic! Sorry! :$
  4. When I was on the phone to a broker at Adrian Flux, I mentioned that the quote I'd received was underwritten by Highways Insurance Company and that they excluded use at the 'Ring. I then just asked if any of their other underwriters did the same, he went off and asked and came back saying they all did. In retrospect I suspect that was probably the easiest thing for him to say rather than it being a result of diligently investigating the policy wording from every underwriter they use!! Tempted to phone back and ask them to re-quote using Red Star Equity only...
  5. Thanks Pete, Adrian Flux and Sky insurance are both brokers and use several insurance underwriters but all of them exclude 'Ring. I'll try HIC (Herts Insurance Company) and Chris Knott
  6. I got a new insurance policy with Privilege at the end of June when the car was standard. Went with Privilege because competitive price and no explicit Nurburgring exclusions. But when I phoned back to ask them the effect that fitting induction kit, stainless steel exhaust and uprated anti-roll bars would make they want an extra £140 AND to increase the excess to £600 fire and theft and £800 accidental damage! To top it all off - have now received a letter saying that the Scorpion 5000 Cat 1 alarm/immob isn't on their list of approved devices so they can't cover for theft at all ! Pretty pi
  7. I've just had Eibach uprated anti-roll bars fitted and I still have standard springs and shocks, hard cornering feels a whole lot better now.
  8. when I was looking to buy my VR6 there was 1 that sounded good, but I was put off viewing by the fact it had very dark tinted windows. Each to their own and all that, but my view is no tint, or very light (i.e. legal) tint at most. How would you remove the tint on yours? Is it just a 'film' thats been applied to the windows that can be peeled off?
  9. I haven't been impressed with the EBC Greenstuff pads that I'm running on the front with GSF drilled discs. At the Nurburgring (which isn't as hard on brakes as a short circuit is) the brakes went 'off'. Suprisingly though, after going easy on them for the rest of the lap they got better again, and then stayed consistent for the rest of the laps that I did. I just had to try not to over-work them. On a positive note I've found that true to their claim, the EBC Greens don't give off much brake dust. I've got an afternoon session booked at Brands Indy on 4th Sept and I'm a bit apprehensive as
  10. On closer inspection its not the air-con clutch, the air-con pump itself is knackered. Part number is SD7V16-1100 and needs to have a pulley for a 6PK belt (hope that makes more sense to you than it does to me!).... Anyway, does anyone happen to have one lying around, or know where I can get one cheaply?
  11. I think the main theory behind a replacement air-filter or induction kit being better than the original equipment is that they're meant to allow more air into the engine, whilst still filtering out potentially damaging air particles. The colder the air that is supplied to engine the better. Personally, I think while its a nice ideal, the reality is that the difference it makes is minimal so when I fit an induction kit I'll see how it is without any cold-air ducting (sounds like a faff to fit!) and only add later if I'm not happy with the initial results. There is a lot of advice about which i
  12. To answer your question HellsVR6, you'd buy either a replacement air-filter OR an induction kit, not both. An induction kit will replace the air-box that currently houses the standard air-filter. (The air-box is the big black plastic box on the far left hand side when you look at the engine) There are various prices for induction kits, they're meant to improve performance a little bit but the reason I'll be fitting one is just for improved sound (read: louder).
  13. Thanks for posting reply (and so promptly too - nice one!). It does seem then that the noise I get is completely different, so I will continue to ignore it!!
  14. Please can you describe the noise that this belt was making before it self-destructed? My car often makes a kind of squeaky type groan from startup, but it disappears after 3 or 4 seconds and does not re-occurr at all during the journey. I've always put it down to power steering pump getting up to pressure (or something!) - but this was a complete guess with my 'denial meter' cranked up! Should I worry about 'my' noise and how does it compare to yours?
  15. Thanks for the info RichieVR. Update: my mechanic has ordered the Air-Con clutch assembly from VW as this is available separately and appears to be the offending part! It'll take a few days to come through from VW, so car booked back in for next Mon.
  16. The air-con on my VR6 is fine, but on our Mk3 Tdi GL its developed a very noisey 'rattle' whenever you turn it on. So for a couple of months we didn't use the air-con at all !! Then over the weekend it was so hot I used it during a long journey. Now the air-con has stopped working but bizarrely the loud rattle has changed - it now rattles when the air-con is switched off rather than when its switched on!! When I switch the air-con on the rattle stops (but I don't get any air-con cold air!) Took it into the garage and he's diagnosed it as a Air-con pump. Looking down at the air-con pump (t
  17. I thought the video was very funny - made me laugh a lot. Brilliant!
  18. I've joined the VR6 league too. Thought I should assist by propping up the bottom of the league with my team: 'Donkeys'. I can see already I'm going to be as frustrated as ever with my bad luck (or general rubbishness) when it comes to playing fantasy football. Case in point: - I had a quick look at this weeks 'dream team', i.e. all of the highest scoring players from the first week, and on the list was Reading defender Ingirmason. Great I've got that player - except for me he sat on the bench all weekend, so thats 7 points I missed out on!!!! 8-)
  19. I've got a Magnex cat-back, and it fitted ok. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't louder. (I've previously had a very loud Remus piped Mk2 Golf Gti, and an even louder Leo Vinci race exhaust on a 600cc motorbike so maybe my expectations were unrealistic). When my wife is driving the VR6 off down the road it does sound nice - it just could do with being a bit louder in my opinion.
  20. I've been thinking about getting what seems to be the 2nd most recommended induction kit on here, i.e. the Ramair Proram. BUT, having looked on ebay I can find a Ramair Suparam and a RaidHP Proram. Does anyone know if Raid and Ramair are the same thing but with different names so that if I bought a RaidHP Proram would I be effectively getting the Ramair Proram? See ebay item number: 220099022722
  21. JK - is that the ProRam or the SupaRam that you've got? Ben has got the ProRam but I've seen the SupaRam is available too and as you say is £67ish Anyone know the difference between the ProRam and SupaRam? Is one better than the other? If so, why? EDIT: Ben replied to a PM of mine to say that the ProRam is bigger, and because of the larger surface area is better, and recommended by Awesome GTI. Bigger is better! Brilliant!
  22. 1. Opel Kadett (Like a Vauxhal Chevette, that was T-Reg, the old 'T'!!) 2. Ford Fiesta 1300 S (the 'S' was all important when you're 17yrs old) 3. Rev n' go Suzuki 50cc (while I was at Uni. Was crap but did about 100 miles on £2 of petrol, great when you're a student!) 4. 1.4 Escort. terrible car 5. Astra sri (old shape - was fun but in terrible shape. Learnt that service history is important!) 6. Golf Gti Mk2 8v 5dr (fabulous car, lots of fun, felt bloody quick - even at non-license losing speeds. I want another one) 7. Rover 214 16v (great thrashy engine, but head gasket went) 8. Mk3 Gol
  23. Car looks great - thats the best colour . Hope the paint shop sort out the issues you had without kicking up too much fuss?!
