  1. I'm no expert on this matter (I'm still running standard wheels and standard suspension!) BUT I believe the idea is to keep the rolling radius the same when you increase wheel size. This way the speedo remains accurate and you don't effect acceleration performance. You can use the link below to input standard wheel VR6 sizes and it will recommend tyre sizes for 16 inch wheels. http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp
  2. K&N filter oil is less than £10 delivered, I wouldn't risk using anything than recommended oil.
  3. I like the theory. Let us know how you get on with fitting, post a picture of it fitted, and detail what induction kit you're using. Cheers
  4. in my opinion - thats too much ££ to spend on some 15s (when you add up postage, spacers etc etc). But all down to personal preference. Note: I'm running the original standard 15s with standard suspension on my VR6 at the moment, and if I change it would have to be to go to 16s at least, if not 17s. BUT I wouldn't change wheels without dropping the suspension too - 'cause it looks so much better when its been dropped 35mm or more.
  5. 52k and going great
  6. Thanks for sharing your project with us. It looks great in the photos, a real inspiration! Does it go as well as it looks?
  7. I'm loving the Toyo T1-R. Great grip in both wet and dry conditions,. I managed to get set fitted locally (West Sussex) for approx £200 to standard wheels (205/50/15). (Excuse all the editing - I really should proof read before I post!)
  8. I've not bought this product myself (yet) but found it on ebay, item number 160129779031 Seller is pw-motorsport. If you do buy through this ebay advert - please update this thread with details of the purchase experience!
  9. Advert does look better now you've amended the wording. I think its worth re-doing the photos though. Park it up somewhere better, and include at least one interior photo too. Good luck with the sale - if I was looking for a VR6 I'd be arranging a test drive!
  10. I've removed the external one and not had any heat-soak issues so far.
  11. Its a concept car. 6.0 litre, 641bhp, 553lb ft torque, engine mid-mounted. Rear Wheel Drive. 0-62mph 3.7 seconds. 19" alloys, 295 width, lowered 70mm, underfloor aerodynamics, top speed in excess of 201mph. All above quoted from July edition of Top Gear magazine. Perhaps it hints at a new model, even hotter than the R32, but I can't ever see them putting this into production which is a real shame.
  12. The Thermostat went on my Golf VR6. The symptoms were that it overheated to the point of boilover from the expansion bottle. The top hose coming from the radiator was too hot to touch, but the bottom hose, although hot was 'cool' enough to hold for a second or two. My guess would be that if you find the same (i.e. bottom hose if 'cool') then its the thermostat. Word of warning. When I took mine to VW main dealer, they said it was the head gasket and that it would be approx £1,000!! I disagreed and got them to do just the thermostat at about £180 and it fixed the problem! Result! (Note -
  13. I've had similar thoughts. Craggsy is right - depends what you want the car for. If its going to be a track weapon, then srtip it all out, sell the bits, including the I.C.E. and spend any money you re-coup on a roll cage and/or performance parts. But, if its going to continue to be your daily driver for commuting and whatever, and you'll only do 1 or 2 trackdays a year, then you might as well keep the luxuries. Keeping it standard(ish) will probably keep the re-sale value higher than if you stripped it too. (This may be irrelevant - I'm not sure how much you've done to the car already in
  14. My almost standard VR In Action at Wehrseifen (Nurbugring) [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1182156619_4081_FT125435_28th_may_2007_session_2_406v2__small_copy.jpg][/lightbox]
  15. My wife and kids keep me busy on the weekend, so I only spend about 20-30mins cleaning it every couple of months! This thread is motivating me to give it a good wash / polish / wax.
  16. Sorry 4mobora, I completely missed the fact that you've got a Bora and not a Golf VR6!! You probably don;t have the 'air trumpet' that I was going on about! Please update this thread once you've got your K&N fitted to let us know if you're pleased with the results.

I haven't had the opporunity to compare sounds with a Milltek or Jetex but I'm happy with my Magnex cat-back system. At first I was a little disappointed becasue it wasn't as loud as I'd expected [i was expecting similar volume to a 'boy racer'' Impreza which has been measured at a peak of 117db!! ], but over time its either got slightly louder, or I've just got used to it! Note: if its more noise that you're after [and assuming you haven't already got an induction kit] try removing the standard air intake trumpet first (which feeds the standard air-box), because when I was looking to bu
  18. I got a set of 4 Toyo T1-R's fitted in time for my Nurburgring trip end of last month. They're the best tyres I've ever had (previously had Pirelli and Michelin). Low road noise on the boring motorway drive, excellent grip and feedback in both the dry AND the wet round the Nurburgring. I got them from RnR Autodesign 08700 668186 who do mail order, or fitting if you're local (betwen Brighton and Worthing, West Sussex). I found their price to be competitive.
  19. Yes its possilbe its the car - I was just trying to make you feel better! So whats happened? I assume you've had your VR6 on a rolling road and the figure was low? :-( Perhaps its worth putting more detail up and see if anyone has had similar experience, e.g. what was the air temperature, what reading did you get, which Rolling Road was it etc etc
  20. After a dyno session if the reading is nice and high then the dyno machine is definitely 100% accurate. If it gives a figure lower than you expect its definitely a faulty dyno!
  21. When I bought my diesel Mk 3 it only came with one key - when I went to VW to get a pukka spare with built in immobiliser they managed to do a similar thing, i.e. when I got the car back there was a warning light on (my first reaction to your post was that I had the same thing: air-bag warning light, but on reflection it might have been a 'check engine' type light. Either way - it was a warning light that needed immediate attention!). The fix was to get the diagnostics read and an error code reset. VW have the necessary equipment to do this of course, but you might be lucky (like I was) and
  22. There are quite a few previous threads on this topic. Try searching on 'induction' etc. To summarise: it all depends what you're trying to achieve and how much you're prepared to spend! Some people just want to increase the induction noise, others just want to maximise power. One thing you will find if you search through all the other threads on this topic is that on the whole most people love what they've got and think its the best - be it K&N, RAM-air, Green Cone, Carbonio etc. So there is some conflicting advice! The Carbonio (BMC CDA) is a quality product, but expensive, and for so
  23. Thanks for the info Pete. Sounds like an unlucky crash. Fingers crossed the car you're going to see in Wales is 'the one'. Good luck.
  24. Pete. That looked like a nasty crash. What happened? Lift-off oversteer, or did you run wide on the exit and then get into a spin? Do you think that luggage in the boot really unsettled the car through that corner? Sorry to make you re-live the moment [again] but I'm interested to know the details so I can avoid a similar fate the next time I go over to the Nurburgring. I've just got back from a trip over there and once I'd got into the swing of things I was lifting just before the corner for the turn in, then powering through. Your car had more power, different gearing and better susp
  25. I had this problem as well, and the problem was with the tyres, i.e. fitting 4 new tyres completely eliminated the shaking. Before shelling out on new tyres, try swapping the front wheels for the back ones. If this makes a difference to the shaking, then you know its gotta be tyre/wheel related. (I assume you feel the shaking as vibration through the steering wheel, and to a lesser degree through the seat?). [Also - and this is a long shot!! If you've just had the wheels balanced, check to see whether the balancing weights are still on the wheel!! I noticed on my VR6 with the later, larger d
