  1. Hmm - not looking to promising then!! I have got two sets of Infinity 6510 Reference off the Bay for £60 a pair. Initial rig up they seem to sound OK. I'll also be using a little dynamat to deaden things up and improve bass tautness. Still want to hear from anyone who knows the vodoo behind the speaker coding thou.
  2. Bollocks forgot to add that I also need to know polarity for: Front mids/woofers Brown/Blue and Blue/Light blue
  3. Does anyone have any knowledge of the the +ve and -ve on the original VW cabling for a 1993 VR6 Golf? I have nearly completed the installation of infinity components but want to try and get the +ve and -ve the right way round. Stealers and stereo stealers won't tell me! Cables are as follows@ Front Left Tweeter - 2 sets of cables: Brown/yellow and Red Brown/White and Red/White Front Right Tweeter - 2 sets of cables Blue and Red/Brown Black and Brown/Blue Rear Mids/Woofers Brown Blue Green The rest I have pretty much worked out and will post my guide to the installation. Be good to hear from an
  4. Cheers Geezers. Great stuff and I am grateful. I have so far gone down the lazy route but we'll see when it comes to fitting the crossovers behind the cards whether the seats come out! I have posted another thread on ICE Forum if either of you know anything about original VW wiring!! Muchly ta. Chars.
  5. I've had a good look but can't find any threads on how to remove the card for the rear seats on a 3 door Golf VR6 Mk3 (1993). I want to removal the cards (or panels) to get to the rear speakers. I can see that there are 3 phillips screws by the door column but want to be clear on what I'm doing before I get started. Any one help?
  6. There is a lot on the ICE Forum on this but no real guide on how to do it. I started off thinking hmm looks pretty easy - grilles pop off a cinch four screws, wire em in and off you go. Not so. Bought two pairs of Infinity 6510s component speakers off the bay for £60 a pair brand new - happy. This evening has a look behind the speakers. What the feck is VWs colour coding all about? Why are their component tweeters in the back running straight from the mid/bass speakers and yet the fronts seem to be wired up direct to the amp/stereo? How the feck do I use the supplied Infinity crossover units
  7. Thats way over and something seems pretty wrong. I get 34-36mpg on long runs by driving gentle and 22-28mpg on hard runs/town driving. Aree you doing lots of "urban driving" with heavy boots on cos that will get through the gas big time.
  8. RobVR6 - I have been looking into this as I think a hard house fan had my VR6 at some point and the cones are blown with any level of base volume! 17cm (6.5 inch) cones will fit in easily and tweeters will also go in with some mods e.g. starfish mounts for the from dash. Really depends on how much you want to spend. Getting the grills off is v. v. easy - I did it today and the original speakers do look really dated and naff! I'm going for two sets of infinity speakers. Nice.
  9. Cheers Antera - a balanced reply as ever. I think it will look OK as well but am still unsure - might be that this car doesn't get used for moving the wave stick sround!! Cheers.
  10. Hmm - ok I get your drift but if I fit wave stick to top of car with existing VW aerial I will have existing but broken and bent VW aerial!!
  11. I am thinking of replacing the original aerial on my 1993 Mk3 Golf VR6 with a shark fin type. The headlining has to come off to fit a replacement sunroof as the existing one is shagged so I can get to the wiring easily enough. I want to change it as I need to be able to use a soft rack to strap my wave stick on the top of the car! Does anyone have any experience of fitting a shark fin type aerial to a VR6 and if so which manufacturer? *-)
  12. Top advice from you all and I'm v. grateful. The thread from keyhaywire is worth following on this subject as he seems to go through each of the mods above in turn!! I'll look out for the 288mm VR6 set up the bay I guess or if any of you hear of a 1996+ VR6 being broken I'd like to know. Big question is what I do next! VR6 is being used for daily commuting which is silly (smiles per mile not miles per gallon!!) so I have to work out what next. Very tempted to get a turbo fitted and do subtle mods though I think that this VR6 has had ahard life at times so the engine feels a bit worn and I may
  13. Cheers - appreciated. Likely to be th cause - front discs are orginals and pretty worn. Checking out advice from Forum members on disco upgrades so will make decision on replacements. As an aside the VW specialist I took it to for most of the basic work needed recommended Pagids.
  14. (6) I'm interested in an advice any owners can offer on good brake upgrades for the front discos on my 1993 VR6. I know that saying the stock brakes are not a patch on my Honda VTi won't make me any friends but sadly its true. Good disco upgrade for front stoppies needed! Ta. Nice. (6)
  15. (m) Got a 1993 VR6 with 100,000 on the clock. Seems it has had good and bad owners. Spent a lot doing it up and replaced brake lines, rear discs and one rear caliper. Recently brakes judder through the steering wheel under light braking but it all seems solid under heavy or firm breaking. Any clues on why the judder. :S
