What happens to the rods? I reused my old ones in my new engine build, hope they are ok.
-
My original engine didn't do it, that got to 194,000miles and head gasket went, then fitted a 2nd hand engine, that didn't do it to begin with and then started, i changed the lifters and it went away but came slowly over a 1000miles or so. Took that engine out and noticed a very slight blow on the exhaust manifold, which i'm told can cause the noise, but can't be totally sure that was it. Got a new engine going in so hoping that will be quiet.

I think they are the same, i have about 3 of them and one is stamped with AUTOMATIC on it, looks exactly the same, I'm about to fit it to my manual

sealant when installing mls headgasket?
Jimjon replied to Neil20vtc's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Not sure about mls gasket, but when i fitted a new gasket i was recommended to use this stuff (by Vince @ Stealth racing. http://www.wellseal.co.uk/ -
I just liked the look of the corrado so bought one and it happened to have a VR6 engine, hadn't really heard one before that..

Just weld a bit to a standard one, thinking of doing it to mine before i fit it, but not got round to look at it yet. Someone on corrado forum has done it.

Gearbox or Starter motor, on top of the gearbox there is a bolt with an extra thread coming out the head end. Its one of the top two bolts. I was going to ask is that fuel line the PTFE stuff? Does it fit onto standard connectors with jubliee clips or do you need special fittings? Need to renew my stuff in the bay area and the last stuff i used lasted about 1yr before cracking etc so want something better, but not sure if PTFE fits straight on

yeah, i've recently noticed it, has happened to me twice. The 1st time i changed the whole gearbox and clutch then the problem came back. Thats when i discovered the bent fork.

Jimjon replied to VR6CABBS's topic in Previous Events
I am meant to be going up there in the new year for a remap etc, Just got to fit the engine and run it in first. And then do a shitload of other work. -
Nice, am doing similar at the moment. I seem to have 3 VR engines now Is there a reason for going with a dizzy rather than a coilpack?

MK3 Golf OBD1 VR6 to Corrado 2.9 VR6 conversion :)
Jimjon replied to DanChave's topic in Engine Tuning
I've got a corrado and am putting in a 2.8. Have gone for cams, exhaust, air filter and a remap so hoping it will be similar power to the standard corrado. -

VR6 AAA Crankshaft angle/position sensor
Jimjon replied to philevans55's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Have you checked out your isv. That controls the idle and is quite common for it to go wrong. You can clean them out and also check it with a 12v power supply. -
Alternative to undo front strut top nut?
Jimjon replied to Therusterman's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
What bit did you turn with the impact gun, the allen key bit? As i think that will need to turn the opposite way to normal, i.e: tighten/clockwise the shaft to undo the nut -

Could get a 2nd hand one from ebay, is it the one on front of engine? Think i might have a spare. -
Alternative to undo front strut top nut?
Jimjon replied to Therusterman's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Have you tried an airgun/impact gun, they can undo them so fast the strut doesn't spin. Or you can try gripping the shaft/rod from underneath, although that's quite tricky as it round and can get a bit chewed up if trying mole grips. -
There is/was a group buy on the corrado forum for these, not quite the same as the original stuff but decent enough. Factory: Aftermarket:

Possible Ignition Switch problem
Jimjon replied to petemcr's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Worth trying it, as you say its quite a cheap part. I've had my key wear out before, swapped to a spare one and got rid of my problems. -
That annoying diaphragm breather thing
Jimjon replied to McPikie's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Have just fitted a catch can but not started or used car, haven't even got the engine in yet, interesting to hear you went back to the PCV instead. Any reasons? -
When you get the head skimmed you should get the upper timing chain cover that bolts to the head skimmed at the same time, just in case you didn't know.

Is it this sensor? Am just refitting mine and the black plastic ring looked past it so been to VW to order a new one and the part that came was a rubber O-ring seal. Never seen a plastic sensor.

thats ideal, just what i wanted, thanks. Confirms that they aren't the same or very similar. That area on my corrado had some rot in it, had it fixed but it was a bit bodged so want to do it properly myself.
