Rear Caliper Mounting Bolts
gazchill replied to gazchill's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Can you just drill the head off it or does the bolt thread go into the caliper mount -
Does anyone know what the correct size is for this Hex Bolt ? 8mm is to small and turned in the bolt :-( 10mm is to big Can't seem to find a 9mm in any of the local tool shops - I'm going to order one off the web but was starting to think the bolt might be f****d Thanks

OK - So does this mean I'm a bit scewed. I can trolly jack using the jacking point just behind the sill. But I can't support it because the rollbar is on. Everything I've read ses not to go under the car just with a jack. I'm wanting to do work on the brakes so I can't leave it on a ramp either.

...mine has a rear anti roll bar under this. Any probs if i support the car on the roll bar? with a piece of wood between the bar and the stand OR would this damage the bar Thanks in advance.

Hi, I know this is a little late given the discussion was a year ago but :- If there is only one jacking point on the car (If the scissors sill is knackered) how do i jack up and then support with stands. To do this you usually need two supports (One for the jack and one for the stands) I need to support the rear of the car, and from looking at the back I can't jack it up under the boot then put the supports by the wheels. Hope that made sense.

Aye Vagcom - thought it might have modules for detecting if it was recieving a signal from the faul gauge sensor in the tank......

Wire the light up to the SRS and stick in a couple of second capaciter to create a delay

Hi, I was driving about today giving the VR a bit of stick, I looked down to see how much fuel I'd used and to my suprise it was on empty. Given that I'd had half a tank a few minutes before and that I continued driving for quite a while I must have something fooked. At one point today it started to registered 1/4 of a tank again but then it hit empty again. Has anyone seen this before - No errors on VAGCOM

Great (Found the port) Does anyone know what functions you loose if you do it the cheap way and get the £39 cable and V4 of the software for £55 ish Thanks
-
Can anyone tell me where the diagnostic port is ? Want to check its the right connection before I order the cable. Thanks

Great - Sounds like I can have ago myself then. If anyone could give me an overview of the procesure I'd appreciate it. (Waiting for my Hayes manual to turn up for a MkIII Golf)
-
Actually it could be the rear as the form I got back had N/S/R on it.... (The person at the test centre said front on the phone)

Hi, Can anyone explain to me how difficult a front wheel bearing is to do. Do I need any special tools like a press. I'm pretty new to DIY at the moment. Up until now I've only really serviced the car but wouldnt mind trying it myself if its not to tricky. Thank

Can anyone tell me what the wires are on the back of the ABS and SRS light block. I havent got my haynes manual yet. They are labelled 123 and 567. Also the voltage would be useful. Thanks -

Cool - I'll try and prise it off a bit later on. Was thinking of rigging up a circuit which switched both lights on with a delay turning off the ABS :-) Was the rear sensor easy to do?, I've read a few things about peeps having to drill them out ? -

Hi, I've got to put my MkIII through a local test thingy on Friday and my ABS light is now on. Does the panel with the ABS & SRS light on just pull off. I was thinking of daisy chaining the ABS onto the SRS Light so they both come on then off....... -
Mines the same. Its much worse if I'm driving slow. I also get a bit of a creak from just behind the wheel - But again it seems to go away when I'm driving quiker.

[moved] Rear Bumper Catching

Nice - Will try tomorrow. -
If my ABS fault light is off when I take it somewhere to have it hooked up to VAGCOM does it store the history of the prevous error codes or do I need to wait untill it stays on. Thanks

I was kind of wondering where abouts on the hub it was, and is it easy to spot, take out, clean and what to clean with. Thanks in advance.

Where abouts is the ABS Sensor ?

[moved] Rear Bumper Catching
gazchill replied to gazchill's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Hi - I've had the wheel arches pulled out so I dont they are are touching. If I put some weight in the back of the car the tred of the wheel starts to catch the bumper. The car has also been loweredl, not sure by how much as I've only just picked it up. It seems pretty low and has a Koni kit on it all round. -
Hi, ABS light comes on for a day then goes off for a couple of days. Seems to have started after the car was valeted. Any quick fixes ? I'm still driving around in it and normal breaking seems OK.

Hi, I've got 205/40/17s on my Mk III Golf. The rear arches have been pulled out by the local body shop to stop the them rubbing but I still get a few sounds when driving on bumpy roads - which there are loads of where I live. I think the tryes are now catching on the rear bumper - On the trye tred. Any suggestions ? - Apart from getting smaller wheels :-) Thanks
