mmmmmmm, V niiice Do you think I could get 3 kids seats, a bike and a stroller in the back? Bugger, thought you'd say that
-
Yeah I guess I'll just have to give it a go and find out. I was kinda hoping to know either way before spending any money though.

I've got a European '93 Mk3 and need to register it in the UK. But before I can do that I have to change the speedo so that it reads in MPH instead of (or as well as) KPH. Can I just get a UK dashboard or speedo module and fit that to mine? I've already discovered that the wiring connectors for the headlights are different and I have to cut and splice UK ones onto the Euro-wiring, so I'm not feeling hopeful about the dashboard swap ... :/

Does anyone know if I can get a replacement alarm fob? Here's what it looks like, front and back. The guy at the local service garage reckons probably not - but his English wasn't so great and my French/German/Luxembourgish sucks. So, before I break out Babelfish and try talking to the local VW parts department in crap French, can anyone tell me what alarm I have and where I should be looking for spares?

can anyone host a sound file of me new exhuast for me!!!
MANIA replied to jims13's topic in General Chat
Email it to me - I have tons of webspace available. -
Your best friend is the Clone Brush - copy an area from one place in the pic and spray it like an airbrush - the source area moves as you spray on the target area. (BTW - did anyone notice Antera309's tent roof disappear from his sig pic?)

Is this to be done all in one gear? I did it in 4th - started at around 3200rpm so not really in the band - that took 13.5secs I'll try it starting in 3rd next time. It's pretty easy to do around here - even semi-legally. The speed limit on the motorways is 130kph (80mph) so it's right in the middle of the test range (96-160. Most people cruise at 140-150kph anyway

OK, call me old-fashioned, but why the hell would I want to put tyres on my car that just beg curbs to come up and take great big hunks out of my brand new BBS'es? http://www.eurotek-online.com/news/news-details.php?news_ID=88 Why would I want to halve the amount of grip I get in the wet? Why would I want to spend all that extra dosh on awesome super-wide rims and then stick pathetic little 165/50's on them? Please explain, coz my old head hurts thinking about this one. (bah)

I've just had my wheel alignment done and the same thing has happened. Is the steering wheel nut easy to get to with a spanner or a big socket (how big is it?), or is it a hammer-and-screwdriver job to bash it loose?

That's great thanks, I'll check out the flap functioning this weekend. In the meantime here's a couple of pics of mine.

WAAAHHHHOOOOOO!!!! The G-forces must be massive. 0.1' date=' 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, blackout! That is seriously Good. And the fact that it's a Vauxhall Victor is even better - I learned to drive in one! double-thumbs up [img']http://www.minormania.com/stuff/smilie_nz_flag.gif

Faulty? Bugger. Oh well, no worries, I found a standard manifold at the local garage - he said he'd throw the VSR away for me...
-
Yup one lead from the cap to (what I assume is) the coil pack on the bulkhead. I'll have to take some more pics when I get home (the wife has the car) and I'll check out the ECU side of it.
-
Yup that's the one, except mine is dull grey, scratched, oily, dirty and missing the centre black VR6-DOHC cover. I was completely wrong about the 'no VW Motorsport' embossing on mine - it has it for sure. Don't know why I thought it didn't! There's no sign of any number on the silver sticker. I'll post a pic later this evening
-
yup, bonus alright! I have a green plastic ball - is that the vacuum tank? There's LOTS of hoses - I'm used to Morris Minors! It looks like it's got a coil pack at the back right looking at the engine from the front
-
So, I've got this MK3 VR6 which came with the unexpected bonus of a VSR intake manifold. What should I look for to tell if it has all the associated bits that go with the manifold itself? And where's the ECU so I can have a look and see what chip is in it?
-
Thanks guys - I wasn't sure if there were any sensitive electronics that might go bang. I've jump-started my K-Series Minor Traveller plenty of times with it's built-in jump leads but thought I'd check anyway ... Do the foil blankets come in doubles? "ohhh sorry honey, we seem to have broken down in the middle of nowhere .. in the cold ... ;)"
-
I need to put together a toolkit that stays in the car for those inevitable holiday breakdowns. One thing I'm not sure about is jumper cables. Will pretty much any set of decently heavy-duty jump cables do the trick or is there something else I should look for like electronic surge supressors etc etc?

I've been doing a bit of hunting for pics of VSR's and can't find any that don't have the VW Motorsport logo embossed into it. Mine has 'VSR' and 'P' embossed into it but only a silver reflective sticker for VWM where the embossing should be. Also, the Part Number tag has no number on it that I can read ... I'll have to post a pic tonight ... Do you think I may have a prototype or pre-production manifold?
-
No, really - I only just found out about these things tonight - I'm Googling it now. I found a post on another forum by Antera309 who was selling one on eBay ... what'd you get for it (if you don't mind me asking?!) My Mk3 was fairly cheap and the previous owner only had it for a year (just after the engine rebuild and presumably when the VSR was fitted) so I don't think he knows anything about it either - I'm just wondering if I got a better deal than I thought!
-
The manifold on my Mk3 has the initials VSR embossed in it in large letters, a VW Motorsport silver sticker and another embossing that looks a bit like a lowercase letter 'p'. Is this a Schrick manifold? [Edit - no it's not a Schrick, but it is a Good Thing apparently ] (I'll post a pic tomorrow if necessary - I didn't have my camera with me when I was last down in the garage)

I bought my VR6 as a complete n00b - never looked closely at a Golf before, let alone owned one. My car was advertised as having 'sports suspension' - it wasn't on my list of must-haves so I took it as a bonus. The car sure doesn't feel sloppy or soft, as the standard suspension is often described, so is there anything I should be looking for when underneath the car to figure out what kind of 'sports' suspension has been fitted? Labels on shocks, springs etc? Is there any 'usual' thing to look for that would show it's not 'as standard'?

I spotted a fuel leak this morning at the front end of the rubber fuel lines at the engine end. I'll see about doing a cut'n'shut on the hoses (if there's enough free length) and then I'll look for new ones. Didn't have time to do anything about it before work. Are the hoses special VW parts or can I use any suitable length/diameter fuel line?
