  1. Sqarking noise? What's that sound like then? A bit like Squaking? Like what parrots do? Maybe you've got an african grey stuck in your heater matrix? No really, no idea. Could be a VERY worn set of timing chains or perhaps a very perished belt?
  2. Crazy. Hmm, think I'll do a search on the net and find out where my nearest Tesco rocket-fuel garage is !
  3. Nah I think what Phil is saying is that the Chip's are generic, meaning that it's been set up for a certain type of VR setup. The best thing you can ever do (that is if you're not planning on any more intake/exhaust mods) is to get a custom re-map. Expensive, but worth every penny. The map will suit your engines intake capabilities AND exhaust flow. No setup is the same.
  4. Howdy! I've seen a few people on here with a stainless plate that replaces the DOHC plastic cover on thier engines and think it looks pretty mint. Where can you get them from? Or are they custom made? I'm toying with the idea of either painting my existing cover or replacing it with said stainless (or whatever it is) cover. Cheers! Adam
  5. Uh? Really? How's that possible? Surely the type of fuel you use can't affect the induction noise? :-#
  6. I dunno how the V6 24V engine compares to the R32 engine........is the gearbox the same? If so, you might be able to mate that up to an R32 engine..........are the V6 24V's 2 wheel drive though? Think so..........
  7. Oh, and Mackenzie, if you can get an R32 lump fitted for £500-£800, you're a lucky man! Have you asked or spoken to a garage about the fitting? you'll need custom exhausts and all sorts. And if you want to go 4WD, you'll need to sort out things like fuel tank mods and rear axle mods. Don't think it'll be as cheap as you think tbh. There was a chap on here or on the corrado forum with a 24V V6 engine from a passat. Much easier, and it's been done a few times now so there's some experience floating about.
  8. Gotta be synchro. If not, he's gonna have traction problems, and it's be such a waste not to have 4WD in a car that's easily capable of 400+ Bhp with a soopy-charger or turbo.
  9. Lol! Looks like he cracked his windscreen shoe-horning it in though! I seriously don't see why it shouldn't. If they can put one in a MK2, they sure as hell can put one in a mk3!
  10. Oh sh1t. Might have the same problem then. My sump's a bit battered too. How close to the bottom of the sump does the oil pump sit? Does it sit right on it or is there a gap? My car sounds a bit cack on start up when it's cold too...... :-(
  11. There's also some interesting info here I'm in the process of getting bits together to SC my VR, and knowing that the stock engine can take up to 15 PSI with a copper head gasket is brilliant! :-)

  13. How's it! Good to see some more south africans on here! (lived there for a year when I was 15 years old, loved it!) Sounds like you've got a serious problem there mate. Possibly not the big end bearings. There'd be knocking if they'd gone. Possibly your oil pump, however if I were you I'd look into a full bottom end re-build as if there's metal in the oil then there'll be metal in all of the joints/bearings which will end up dying in the not too distant future. Everything else will be at risk too, so a full engine rebuilt might be a good idea. Bit more expensive, but that way you know everyth
  14. Er, sounds like you have a major oil leak somehere! LoL! No really, sound like you've got oil going through your combustion system somewhere. Have you checked oil and water to see if there's any comtamination?
  15. It's the only way to make sure you're not left with any swarf in the cylinder. The head's aluminium so you can't use a magnet. Unless you've got a fibre-optic camera and a surgical vacuum cleaner you can't be sure that you've got it all out.
  16. Then mine's in exactly the same state. Will whip it out at some point........
  17. Uh?! How? I thought they screw in to a socket at the bottom? A sort of bayonet fitting?
  18. Bloody hell. Hmm. Have you got any knocking noises coming from the engine? First impressions suggest that something piston related is going / gone. Is there a clinking coming from the engine suggesting a broken piston ring?
  19. Yes. Well there are two ways of going about it. a) Get the head off, and get the tappets, valves and springs out. Get the valve guides replaced and subsequently the oil stem seals. Then re-assemble. Could cost a LOT as the head's off, and things like head gaskets, head bolts, and skimming of the head need to be paid for if necessary. Or Find someone with an air line and a fitting that goes into your spark plug hole. Take the inlet manifold off and cams out. Take out a spark plug and pressurise the cylinders with the air line and take the valve springs out without having to take the head off.
  20. Here it is! http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?190342.post
  21. Definitely sounds like something's shorting out somewhere. Although I've heard of a MFA "hack" that allows your fuel guage to act as a MPG indicator..... It was on this forum too.....
  22. Smoke when coming off the throttle is almost certainly your valve stem seals and guides being a little worn out. There's no oil in water and vice versa is there? Also just check that your oil isn't over-filled. If it is, drain some out as excess oil will be picked up by the breather hoses on the top of the head, and into your inlet, which in turn will kill your CAT.
